    Hard Drive Problem

    Hi

Here is my problem. I bought a WD Passport 250 Gig drive when I first got started. I formated it with WBFS 2.2 and put games on it and it worked fine. I started getting more games and bought another one but this time a 1 TB. I also upgraded my WBFS to 3.0 before I got the new drive. I formatted this new drive and put all my games on it but it will not work with the Wii. Some of the problems is that it will not load on the Wii. It will say "Please Wait" and stay there forever, that is with Wiiflow. It will load but when I go to click on a game it does nothing, that is with USB GX Loader. Sometimes I can get it to load in Wiiflow but when I click on a game it gives me a disk error. Is there a problem with the size? Software I am using? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am pretty sure WBFS partitions cannot exceed 500GB. I would also recommend a partition of fat 32 to allow running your loaders/emulators and such from as opposed to running from SD. I also have an NTFS partition on mine for storing bluray rips to free up space on my PC.

Format to fat32 then format it with wbfs. In all honesty, It would be a waste to format a 1tb as wbfs. I'd suggest that you use your previous hd to load games off it and use the 1tb as storage. It is not like your going to be playing every single game possible on your 1 tb. :-)

the 1tb wont format on a win7 computer only vista or xp.

@Fire: it is the only partition. I did not do any others so I have to assume it is the primary and active. Thank You.

@thatfloorguy: Good suggestions for sure. Thank You.

@KageGB: Better suggestion and the one I will use. One thing that I forgot but found out again is that even though the games download at 4 Gig that is not always the true space they take up. I found out even with loading the new games I still have plenty of room on my 250g, so no worries. The 1 TB will become storage. Thanks Guys!!!!!!

I am running W7, but cannot confirm whether or not 7 can format a 1tb. I can tell you 250 GB will fill up faster than you think. You can google for partition master home edition(free version), and split/format the 1tb with it. I would use that myself with a 500GB wbfs partition, although the final decision is yours, obviously.

Well, I am running XP and even though I said I would just use it for storage, my curiosity got the best of me. So I followed the instructions in one of the guides on formatting a HDD. I ended up with 482g in NTFS and 442g for my Wii drive. I put all my games, in iso form in the NTFS drive and then using WBFS 3.0 formatted and then moved 5 games over to my Wii drive. It did not work still and I checked to make sure it was active and primary. I give up on trying to use this drive on anything other than storage.

not a problem ive ever encountered with win7 x64. I have many drives that are 1tb+ and all formatted fine.

The games need to be placed in the wbfs formatted partition (using wbfs manager). Also, make sure your loader (GX) if that is what you are using is set to wbfs partition. Settings/game load/partition/wbfs

Thanks davepm. I wasn't sure but assumed 7 would have the capability to format such a drive.
