    4.3u

My wii hasn't been working for a couple months now, and i'm trying to fix it. The disk drive is not spinning the disks and i think the problem might be the laser. I know Nintendo doesn't except soft-modded wii's so i know they wont help me. But i had one idea that might work. If I update to the new system menu will Nintendo accept it?
    Thanks

    No they won't accept it.

Softmodding always leaves traces, those traces will be found by nintendo (they got some special disc that people managed to get traces from) and then they will refuse to repair or ask insane amounts of money for it.
If you're positive it's the drive, buy a new drive and install it.

I've never done it myself, but from what I've seen it's not hard.
Basically it's a single ribbon cable connecting the drive to the mainboard. Meaning you take the drive out and connect a new one with the same ribbon cable.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong though. I never even opened a Wii.

If you virginize your Wii Ninty won't be able to tell that you hacked (I think). Go here to find out how to do that. After your Wii is virginized, send it into Ninty. When your Wii comes back, it will probably be 4.3u, so you will have to re-hack it. Virgin soft-mod guide and Restore your cIOS.

this article here on Wiihacks states otherwise.
States there that ninty asked $200 for a repair of his console because of unauthorized software, even after he removed everything.

Alright guys, no one knows for sure what they will do. Sometimes they charge a lot and sometimes they don't. You can send it in and they will tell you how much they are going to charge you to fix it. If you don't want to pay then they send it back. Simple as that. "Virginizing" hides nothing from N if they actually bother to look.
    Damn I suck!!!!

Do you think it's likely that they check all the wiis that get sent in?

They don't check them all. I've even heard of someone sending in a wii with a modchip in place and the only reason they wouldn't repair was homebrew. Nothing said about the modchip.

So you can give it a try, worst case you will get a letter from nintendo that they won't repair your wii and get your wii back unrepaired.
