    What modchip do I have?

    Hi all,

I got my wii modded about two years at one of my local gaming shops, but they never told me what kind of chip they put in. Well, they are not around anymore, and I would like to know what modchip I have. Is there any way for me to find out? One unique characteristic of my modded wii is that they installed a flick switch in the back of my wii. I would need to flick the switch one way if I wanted to play my own burned dvds, and flip the switch back the other way if I wanted to play an actual wii game. Also, I bought this wii the very first day the wii was introduced. I don't know what other information you guys would need, but I will try my best to let you guys know.

The reason I ask this is because I am currently on 3.4, and would like to upgrade to 4.2 to play some of the newer games. Before I blindly upgraded, I would like to at least know what modchip I had. My other question to you guys would be, how do I upgrade to 4.2 with the modchip that I have?

    Thanks for all your help.

You would need to use a disk update, if you use the official nintendo online update you'll be at 4.3 and I dunno what you will be able to do from there. Also realize that 4.2 will remove the ability to play out of region games for disk based modchips.
