Question Install external hdd to hard modded wii?

My sons have a wii that has been chipped long ago and currently on 4.2
I installed homebrew and gecko so I could add cheats to the games to make it easier for them. I have had to replace 2 lasers in last year and a half and was wondering what is the easiest way to run an external usb drive for games on hard modded wii

I can only see a tutorial for softmodded wii
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...different.html
so is there an easy way for wii's that have a modchip?

    Thanks for any advice

Yeah, there is an easy way, but it's an expensive one. It's called a WODE. WODE is a solderless chip you connect to your DVD Drive. It comes with a standard for your Wii with a build-in LCD screen on which you can select a game. The standard has an USB port and an SD Card slot in it. The USB port is for playing games, and the SD Card slot for updating the firmware of the WODE.

For more information, see the WODE forums.

I don't know a lot about chipped wii's but from what I've read you can run the softmods alongside the chip, this will allow you to install something like USB Loader GX which will let you play games from an Ext HD.

I'm sure someone who knows more well be able to tell you more - or have a search around

    Hi thanks for the advice.
The wii already has argon chip inside. I dont want to buy another chip so what are my best options.
I would prefer not to have to fully softmod either as modchip still works fine and when all else fails like mario I used geckoos to load game with cheat enabled.
Is there a way to add some files on their own without fully softmodding to enable ext hdd?
In the tutorial I linked to above it said modded need diff files but cant see a tutorial explaining what files.

I have the hombrew on is there anything I can add via that which will enable a ext hdd to work so I can load on there games via the drive and play from there.
The main reason is so I dont need to keep buying lasers and fitting them although I still have a spare in case lol

all you need is usb loader GX and run that from HBC, you can download it here just add the file to your sd card and your good to go, there is a link to the usb compatibility guide in my signature, also the usb loading guide link is there

Hi Robbobnbill thanks for the advice can I just install usb loader gx without softmodding. My firware is currently 4.2e
Like i say i have homebrew channel on and also use gecko via sd card so I can load games with codes for cheats for kids when not just loading normally using the modded argon chip

That link says for softmod only, hardmods uses different software??

Sorry if I sound a bit thick but I am not great at these things lol

    What about wiiflow 2 ?

Ummm.... wiigaz your wii is already softmodded. All you have to do is install usb loader gx and a few ios. Then your done. Well you also have to format the external HDD to WBFS. You can actually use the wii to rip the games to the hard drive as well instead of redownloading it.
