    Can Anyone Help Me?

I just bought a second 1TB WD external hard drive. I have got it formatted and partitioned how i want it, and I want to clone my wbfs partition using Wbfs manager. My problem is my comp is not recognizing both my drives at the same time, if one or the other are plugged in alone they show up. The second one plugged in does not get read. In disc management the second drive shows up with the partitions, but no drive letters show and its not showing each type of format like the other drives do. Like I said, it is always "the second" HDD plugged in that cant be read. Why? I should mention that both my HDD are WD My Book Essential with WD Smartware. I have yet to figure out how to overwrite this partition as it is useless to me, but its so small I dont even care. This partition always shows up a completly seperate partition, and this partition IS read and shows up correctly on both HDDs. Is there a setting somewhere in windows7 or a tweak to get both to show, Ive tried this on 2 PCs to no avail. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I had that problem before. The problem is that your PC is viewing the two drives as the same device. There is a way to get past that but I don't exactly remember how I did it. I'll try to figure it out and post back.

Not sure what version of Windows you are using but go into Disk management and start by making sure you see both WD hard drives are listed. (They should be) Then change drive letter and paths and make sure each hard drive is different. You will then get a message saying the device has the same attributes to another drive on the system and it will ask you if you want it to be recognized as a separate device. Choose yes.

In disk management you have to right click the partition and then you will see the option to assign a drive letter and set paths.

My partitions show up but no info about them eg drive letter, format type, etc. When i right click all options are greyed out. when i plug one in at a time they work and i have different drive letters assigmed. i think you have the right idea though, i think it sees them as the same device, but on the other hand it sees the wd smartware partition form both drives, just not the other partitions that i have formatted. Not home now but will try different things tomorrow. Thanks for your help, any more ideas would be helpful. Also, i am running win7.

Also if any admin read this can you change the thread title, i dont know why 'with thread title' showed up.

I don't have both hard drives anymore but I had the same exact problem and I was able to work it out. I don't remember exactly how I did it though and I can't go through it again unless I get myself another hard drive. I cloned a mybook essential 500GB usb hard drive to the exact same one. I ran into the same problem you are having and somehow got it to work. Keep trying, you will get it!! I also did it with Windows 7 so it definitely can be done.

I'll post back if I can remember anything else. Good Luck!
