Lightbulb Buying a Wii tommorow, Need some answers...

    Hi Wiihacks.
I'm about to buy a new (first) Wii and I have a few questions?

    1. What version should I buy / Are there any noticeable differences between versions of the Wii?
    2. Support for backed-up(burned) Gamecube games is extremly important for me and I've heard newer versions have difficulties with (burned) gamecube games, is that true (for softmodded Wiis)?

...And that's it, I just wanna know which version is the best and make sure I could softmod it to run things like burned GC games without any problems.

Version? You mean you have the ability to choose what system menu version you want when making the purchase?
Awesome, if that is true, try to get 3.1 or below, since it should offer boot2 as well as being able to play the disks you want.

Umm.. Not exactly, I'm it's more of- black Wii vs. regular Wii, Also I wanted to make sure that if I buy one of them it won't lock any possibilities(like burned GC games).
If I have no choice (i.e.: I can't get a new Wii and softmod it to unlock features I wan't) I might buy one of my friend's old Wiis (again I'd rather not).
    Edit:
look for a wii that doesn't have the d3-2/d4 chip............if you get one with it you wont be able to play disc backs ups.....
How could I tell if the Wii that I'm buying has that or not?
Oh and- I'm really excited for USB GC, If they can make it happen I'll be really happy.

Any newer wii will not be able to play disk backups, no matter what color it is. You would need to get an older one, possibly used.

    Wow... Now that sucks.
I only need that for GC games. whatever... I'll just digg up some used GC games from ebay. 2 more questions:
1- Original GC games are region locked, right?
2- Are there any more limitations in newer Wii versions (like the d3-2/d4 chip)?
Answer that- and I'm off to buy myself a Wii.
