    ThemeMii help

Today i modified the DarkWii theme by adding a new health&safety screen, it worked great, but now i want to customize the theme even more. Problem is that i cant open the .tpl files that i get when extracting a mym. I am using Photoshop CS5. When i made the new health and safety screen i followed the tutorial exactly, so the outcome was a 4:3 ratio picture. What resolution should i use for widescreen 16:9? And as Ive just started using ThemeMii and i feel a bit confused, is there any good tutorial you guys can link me to?

I have no idea, but I hope you have the proper brick protection in place. You could extract a wide screen theme and compare the resoluition of its images to find out what you should use.

The Health and Safety screen must be 4:3. That's the way nintendo made it, and when modifying a theme we can only replace files, not make new ones. there are no good tutorials out there. Trust me, it took me about 2 weeks to figure everything out. It seems that the people who originally figured it out didn't want noobs playing around with the sm, and for good reason; it's really easy to banner brick. Thus, before you proceed, make sure you have priiloader or bootmii/boot2 installed. Ok, with that said,

1)scratch thememii, it only lets you do so much.
2)download the mym of a theme you like. Change the ".mym" to ".zip" and extract the contents. Themes with lots of content already changed are the Zelda:twilight princess theme, or the devil may cry theme.
    3) you can easily change any of the pictures you find in the extracted files, just make sure they are the same size/dimensions and name as the original, and of .png format. or you could delete them if you don't want them and the original sm pic will be used.
4)If you want to change the background pic, first find and download a file called ash.exe (one is included in the folder where you extracted your thememii download)
5)copy that ash.exe to a new folder somewhere, so you have a clean workspace.
6)also copy the board.ash file from the extracted mym to that work folder.
    7)Drag board.ash over ash.exe
8)it will output "board.ash.arc" rename it "board .ash"
    9)find and download a program called "U8Tool"
10)in the first box "Archive file" click the browse button directly right of it and find your newly created board.ash
11)Make sure the "delete any recursive '_OUT' folders..." is checked. Then click extract
    12) This will give a "board.ash_OUT" folder.
13)Find the file "my_BackPic_a.tpl" in the .../timg/ folder
    14)Find and download a program like "TPLConv.exe"
15)It allows you to view the current tpl image, and see what size it is (almost always 544x408).
16)Thus you can find or create whatever picture you want, just make sure it the same size and .png format.
17)Use TPLConv.exe to convert your custom pic to a .tpl file. Make sure it is named my_BackPic_a.tpl
18)put that back in the board.as_OUT/.../timg/folder.
19)Again, open U8tool. This time use the second box to find your board.ash_OUT folder, and select pack.
    20) This will give you a new board.ash file. Throw that in the same folder as the original extracted zip file.
21)rezip all of the contents, rename the ".zip" as ".mym" and use mymenu to creat a .csm that can be installed.

I know its a lot, goodluck.

edit: Scratch that. I figured it out. you can edit the dimensions of the healthscreen. In order to do this, you need to compile benzin, learn about xmlyt files, and properly know how to edit a mym.ini. You could do this yourself as I did, or you can wait, as I'll probably put up a tutorial if one does not already exist on this site. Goodluck.

Thanks for the tips, i will try them out, btw i have Bootmi installed as boot2 with a nand backup on my pc. Otherwise i would never mess around with themes

    EDIT:
Im stuck on step 7 "Drag board.ash over ash.exe". Im using the ash.exe from ThemeMii and when i drag board.ash over it a cmd window pops up for a split second but the board.ash file remains unchanged. And can someone link me a good TPL viewer/converter, i found 2 but both were unable to open TPL files.

well I feel like an idiot. There's no need for ash.exe, just extract the board.ash with U8Tool. ShowMii Wads has a great TPL viewer/converter built in.
