Unsure about what i need to do only to be able to play wads and nothing else

I have been following Messies Softmod 4.2 guide, but my questions aren't mainly about that guide, but about hacking in general. This is my first post so i'll try and keep it formal.

What i want: To be able to play downloaded NES, SNES and N64 games. I think you refer to these as "wads".

What i don't understand: What parts of for example Messie's guide do i actually need to do to be able to do that? The guide doesn't seem to explain what Part B, C and D actually are for, and after part A i got several nice options to choose from when in HBC, including something about Wads. Can't i just skip the rest of the guide and install that Wad option and be done with this?

What i did and what happened: Virgin 4.2E > Installed the pack from step A of Messie's guide from a new FAT32 formatted 2GB Sandisk SD card, which gave me HBC, DVDX and Bootmii in IOS mode > Got a note about a new version of HBC available (1.06) so i downloaded that and only installed the HBC option > Tried to start up Bootmii at part B of Messie's guide to get rid of ios249, whatever that is good for, and got stock at a black screen.

Do i even need to be messing with Bootmii and all that? I wish the Messie would explain what each step in his guide actually was for so i wouldn't have to ask these questions. It's a good guide otherwise though.

    Thanks

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe all you need is HBC to do what you are wanting to do. One thing I need to correct you on is NES, SNES and N64 (as you called them) are not wads, they are simply apps or in this case emulators. A wad is something that gets installed on your wii and apps just run using HBC. If you go here you can find the emulators that you are wanting. They need to be placed in your apps folder on your SD card.

    SD:\apps\fceugx (NES)

    you will also need this

    SD:\fceugx\roms (put your games here)
    SD:\fceugx\saves
    SD:\fceugx\cheats

You will find something similar for all the emulators. Most have a readme file that explains this but if not just google it or search this site and I'm sure you will find something.

That's very kind of you. Thank you for explaining. I hope you're right about this, so i don't need to fiddle more.

I am a little bit worried that Bootmii won't start though, because don't i need that if something bricks? I wonder if it is unable to start because i installed HBC 1.06 right after i installed the pack from part A of the guide.

You don't need anything special to run homebrew, except homebrew channel.
Install and run bootmi if you want, but your risks are minimum

IF all you are doing is installing HBC and nothing else and have NO plans on going any further softmoding, I wouldn't worry about bootmii so much. All though it's not a bad idea to get it working and make a backup of your nand just in case. if you do want to get it going again, just start over with the guide at Part A and install bootmii and then follow the guide to make a backup or your nand.

No you also need IOS202. So that's why it makes more sense to just follow the guide.

I disagree here. If you install any software at all on the Wii you should have bootmii and priiloader.

@-OP I suggest you follow the entire guide.
    Damn I suck!!!!
