Anyone know if the new Nintendo Wii...

... Consoles can read writable media? I am wanting to buy one but only if I can use Homebrew to run DVD-R backups as well as licensed games. I only ask as a couple of threads around the internet suggest that Nintendo have updated the new Wii DVD drives to not read from backup/copied discs and only read at 3x speed which causes video/frame rates to be choppier than normal.

Anyone with a newish Wii running Homebrew know any different or can set the record straight?

    Cheers!

new wiis cant read dvd-r but u dont need it(exept if u want to play gcn backups) cuz theres something called usb loaders. it can load wii games from usb at higher speed than original disks! burnt games: 3x. normal games: 6x. games from usb: 8x

Thanks for the quick replies. A bit disappointed on the Gamecube side of things, there are a few games I wouldn't mind going back to, but I guess they are cheap enough to pick up on eBay anyway so I can live with that.

Just one other thing, can the USB drive be used for saved games as well as the USB Loader or would I still require an SD Card?

    Cheers!

if you split the harddrive (like me) to a 2gb fat32 partition and format the bigger part into wbfs, wiiflow can run without sd card (u need to put the files on the fat32 partition of the hdd instead

games from usb save like any ordinary game. and you can always wait for a gcn usb loader they are working on it and has alredy managed to use the wiis extra stuff in gcn mode. the only thing missing is to get the game to read from usb cuz gcn games doesnt run on ios, they read directly from the dvd drive. So if some1 came up with a way to force the games to think that the usb is the dvd drive, a gcn usb loader is created.
