Region Free DVD Playback (WiiMC, Mplayer, etc.)

Hi guys, the title basically speaks for itself here.

My Wii is currently running 4.2 and soft modded only.

I've just purchased a DVD boxset from the US (NTSC) and I live in Australia (PAL).

I would like to get it running on the wii through any homebrew media application (or at all).

Can anyone enlighten me here please?

    Thank you

Did you try and use one of the apps? did it work?
Sent from my van, down by the river.

I should have mentioned, yes. I tried both with no success.

Edit: No error messages, just the DVD spinning up and failing to play.

How old is your wii? Have you been able to play any dvds at all?

The Wii was purchased November last year. Regular (PAL) DVDs generally work fine. A few bugs here and there, as with everything.

Are softmodded wii's capable of playing region free DVDs by default?

Well I never tried to play them much since playback was so awful and I have regular dvd players and I don't have any dvds that are out of my region. I would think they should play or that there would be a setting in the app that shouldn't be that hard to find.
I was just trying to rule out the other posibilities by asking questions to get the info you didn't provide in your first post. Now someone may come along who knows good luck.

Just managed to get it working on my dvd player by entering a code, enabling region free playback.

As far as my Wii goes, i'll keep trying.

    Thanks for trying.
