Am I missing step in dealing with RAR files prior to burning them?

I am new to the Wii mod scene as I posted in the introductions sections. I guess I may have jumped them gun by installing a DriveKey mod chip prior to doing my full research. I took the advice of someone that I work with who had installed the mod chip himself. As far as I am able to tell the chip is not the problem. I believe that I am missing some detail in the process for burning a downloaded iso file. The DVD-RW drive I am using is a Pioneer DVR-110D and I am using Maxell 16 x media.

Here are the steps that I am doing.

    1. download the iso file
    2. using WinRar extracting it
    3. I have tried both Nero and Imgburn to burn the iso file (which in Explorer shows winrar file type, so extension and type to match)
    4. Using each program I have burned multiple discs at 1x or 2x without success
    5. Putting disc into Wii results in a disc error

I am almost certain that I am missing a small yet important step when handling the WinRar file(s). Thanks to the forum for any and all help.

While I wait for guidance I will be doing more research into SoftMods as I would like to run Emulators and keep all my isos on a USB hard drive.

    Thanks again.

Just a hard mod yes? You aren't trying to use neo gamma without the soft mod first?

WinRAR shouldn't be set to display ISO files as winRAR files. ( not sure if this is your problem though) Change it so winRAR isn't associated with ISO files. Is your wii new?? Purchased in the last year?
    Damn I suck!!!!

Doesnt the drive key get over the new chipset if you are going that way Krank? Not familiar with hard mods so was wondering...

Wow, thanks guys. Here are the answers to your questions.

First, it just a hard mod. So new that I have no idea what neo gamma is.

Second, the unit was purchased last month. I will double check the settings in WinRar and let you know if I had to change anything.

Okay, unchecked iso files within WinRar. I have never seen that before as I deal with iso files for other apps. Guess I fat fingered it somehow.

No. Your modchip is useless if you have the d3-2 drive which cant play burned media. Your only option would be USB loading or a drive swap. Anyway you can check your serial number at Wii Drives. (Google it)

You said your goal is to play from USB anyway so i'm not sure why you would buy a modchip?
    Damn I suck!!!!

Thanks narse. I was hung up on the whole "torrent" search. When it turns out that may not have been the problem. I guess I will attempt another DVD-R burn and see where it goes for there.

    Thank you.

Did you read my post above??? burning again won't help anything if you have the d3-2.

EDIT: Also go remove your double post and add your comments to the post prior to that one. Don't double post.
