Can't seem to be able to format my hard drive to WBFS.

I bought a new WD 250gb passport essential. I disable the WD SmartWare. I tried re-formatting it as a FAT32 and master boot record, 1 partition. When I plugged it into the wii and open USB Loader gx I got a message to either format or select a partition. I chose format and got an "Exception (DSI) occurred" error and code dump. After various trials, I reformatted it to empty space, again 1 partition, and tried it. I instead got a window showing 4 partitions and stating that neither was reformatable. I finally decided to choose the select with a FAT32 and master boot record, 1 partition setup. It opened, I managed to rip a Mario Kart which I have in CD. However, the format continues to be FAT32 and is not recognized by WBFS manager for os x when connected to my mac. When I try to play mario kart from the USB loader it crashes into a blank black screen. I cannot format it to WBFS Manager for os x and have no access to a windows computer in which I could install the WBFS manager there. Is there any other way in which I could format the drive to WBFS otherwise?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried all of the guides i have found and none work. I'm getting a tad desperate for a solution. It would again be GREATLY appreciated.

Well, you could try running WBFS manager on the pc of a friend or something. You could also try to repartition your drive using Gparted (it is availabe as a live cd). It has always worked for me.
Awesome sig picture does not work

Did you know that it is not necessary to format to wbfs? You can use ntfs or fat32 too.
I used to use (can you say that so? : D) wbfs partition but now i have ntfs for common files, movies etc. and fat32 for wii. i can use it instead of sd card in HBC AND it has .wbfs files of games I want. It doesn't take more space than it would on wbfs partition. Only this way I can use the space that otherwise would be empty space on the wbfs partition.

Bliepo: Is there any risk of virus while downloading the WBFS Manager? My friend is paranoid.. after all it is her work computer..

Tysss: So if I put a game (Super Mario Galaxy 2.rar ) on the drive, with it still being FAT32, I will be able to access it and open it in the USB Loader gx? or how can i add the games for them to work? Could you please explain this well? I'm a noob.. THANK YOUUUU!!

Well .rar files are compressed "packets" of files, just like .zip files are. You'll need to extract that rar file (not sure what program does it on mac.. with google i found this: UnRarX - Mac OS X RAR Extraction Utility ) to get the .iso file. Just put the .iso (image of the disc) to a wbfs folder (for example F:\wbfs), and usb loaders will find the game from there.

But there's a but: fat32 doesn't support files bigger than 4GB. So you'll need to use ntfs (not bad at all, I would say that it is the simplest one to use) or use wbfs manager that can divide larger games into two parts. I'd suggest ntfs in this case.

And I can answer that there's no risk of virus if you download from a trusted source. in this case it would be WBFS Manager. But if you start using ntfs partition, you'll don't need wbfs manager or any other application (other than program to extract zip and rar files).

narse1979: Yes I tried all combinations of partitions, however everytime I'd try to use the wii to re-format it, I got an error (Exception (DSI) occurred).

I don't understand why everyone try's to format their drive with the Wii. Makes no sense to me. Use a PC. I have never had any issues with the drives I have set up. (Always WBFS and FAT32 partitions on both)
    Damn I suck!!!!
