    Unusual Semi-brick problem

OK, I *hope* I have just not searched properly and there is an answer to my problem. Due to some unknown string of events I have a semi-bricked wii. But it is behaving differently than what I have been able to find here. Here are the symptoms.

    - It will boot into system menu just fine.
    - It will run *some* original discs (i.e. Sports Resort and Twighlight Princess work fine, but Mario Kart hangs as soon as you try to run it).
    - I can get into HBC from the HBC channel, but anything I try to run (wad manager, Anytitle delete, ...) locks it up with a black screen requiring a 5 sec hold of the power key.
    - Bootmii is either not present anymore or not responding I can also not reinstall it as if I run hackmii it also locks up with the black screen.
    - Priiloader does not come on when you hold reset and power on.

The kids were using it and I know it has been upgraded to 4.2 (I had used wainniko's 4.1 upgrader recently and it now reads in the wii menu) I assume either by a friends disc or a online update.

Am I missing some easy answers out there or is this indeed unusual. I can follow the howtos if someone can point me in the right direction. BTW I do not have a modchip only softmod. Thank you for any help.

Sounds like what happens when you update to 4.2. Nothing unusual about it. Now you have to follow a 4.2 guide and resoftmod.

From reading your post it appears as though you never did have priiloader installed correctly or if you did you did not have block updates hack turned on and now somebody has updated your wii to 4.2. Since on 4.2 you can no longer use the same 3.1 to 4.1 guide to mod your wii as it will always freeze when you attempt to access hackmii installter via data managent. The 4.2 update has pretty much removed all hacks so you will have to follow the 4.2 guide to remod your wii.

Thanks for the replies amps and oddgriffin.

Here is the key though. All the howtos I have seen require starting with loading hackmii or some other boot.dol. My issue is that I can't get those to load either. And this is using the same SD card I used when originally softmodded, so I don't think that is the issue. When I try to re-run hackmii it just does the same bombing out to black screen again. If I could get anything to run once, I think I could get everything back right, but I can't get anything at all to execute without the blank/black screen.

What kind of SD card are you using? You might trying doing a full format not a quick format on it and then try to install hackmii.

Make sure you have WiiConnect24 Off. First try a few different packages...bannerbomb

If no luck then Download this...Dop-Mii_v12_CB2_BB2.zip

Backup and format your SD. Extract and copy all files and folders to the root of your SD. Put the SD in your Wii and Load dop-mii Via bannerbomb method. ( Click the SD Icon on the Wii Menu) Dop Mii will load. Install IOS 36 WITHOUT Patches. After it has finished exit dop mii. Then try to follow the 4.2 guide, using bannerbomb as normal. If you need to do it offline I can link you to the wads you need.
    Damn I suck!!!!

Hmmm.... seem to be making progress, the bannerbomb didn't work, the first freezes with black screen after selecting boot.dol. The others froze before that.

The Dop-Mii loads and allows me to pick "Install IOS 36" but then shows "Loading selected IOS" and nothing ever happens. I will try that again on a different SD card just in case it is a bad write or something. But still seem stuck. Thanks for all the suggestions though. Please post any more ideas. I will post if I find a breakthrough.

Okay try this instead. This is assuming your Wii is online.

    Load dop-mii VIA banner bomb
Press A when the first screen with warnings comes up.
The first option should say IOS : 36
Change it so it says IOS250 and Press A.
It will bring you to another screen. Click the first Option " IOS , GC, MIOS"
Another screen will come up, use the d-pad to change the IOS to IOS36 ( Beside "Title")
Press the " + " Button on your Wii remote to install IOS36. It will ask if you are sure...Press A. Select download from NUS.
Make sure it installs with no errors.
Don't do anything else in this program. Just these instructions. Be sure that you are pressing the "+" or "plus" button to INSTALL and not the " - " button to Un-install.
    Damn I suck!!!!

SUCCESS! At least I think. Will try to fully re-install tonight. But it did get IOS36 installed from the download. No errors on the install but a stack dump upon exiting DOP-MII. Then I quickly when in and tried to load hackmii again and it actually worked, without locking up. Will go through the rest of the install tonight and report back.

Thanks for your help Krank, BTW any chance you can explain how you knew to do that? Just for my education (although hopefully there won't be a next time to try this again).

Basically when you said the above quote and from past experience dealing with this issue myself and with other members here. My last post is what I initially told you to do in my post before that one, but I didn't explain it well enough so I think you picked the wrong option in dop-mii (Install IOS36 with fakesign). That and a combination of guessing lol ( I knew it wouldn't harm your wii though)

I would strongly recommend installing Priiloader ( By following a Guide) and if you want to PM me a sys-check after you check things out a little more I will have a look. Glad you got it working.
    Damn I suck!!!!
