Installing Wads to create new channels

    Hey Guys,

I am as noobie as it gets. I have managed to fumble my way through installing the Home brew channel. I have even installed uloader as a channel, but that's where it stops.

I have no idea what a CIOS even is or what version I have. All I am trying to do is install the opera web browser wad file so I can run orb to view video via my wii. I run the wad manager and it asks me what CIOS to use....I have no idea.???? anyone. I picked 249 and it come up with error ret-1029.

Hope that is enough info to help, I have the guide i used at home on how i installed the uloader as a channel, I assume that was installed as a wad file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .
    Bruce

if i was you, i'd double check the soft mod guides. it sounds like something is missing. i'm no pro or anything but wads shouldn't be an issue if you have the wii modded properly. something to point out before you do to much, this has saved me once with a relative's wii. after you get hbc on (i'm sure you have lol) back up your nand. it's a 500 mb insurance policy. might want to get a priiloader before messing with channels also. just trying to point you in the right direction. for better help, which you will likely need (i'm a noob here to), you may want to update this post with the system menu you have, the guide you used and any steps you have questionable feelings about other than the installing iso 249 error. i/we done my cousin's/his the other day, again (fan crapped out and he sent it off to "n" for a new one). i had to revert back to step b1 in messie's 4.2 guide, and reinstall iso 249 and then remove it again. none of the custom ios files would work for me. it would freeze or kick an error if i was lucky. would be worth a shot, might help you out.

Sounds like the user hasn't even followed a Wiihacks Guide. In this case they will have to follow ono of the softmod guides on this site for their system menu version. ( Which include all important steps unlike many other guides found on other sites)
    Damn I suck!!!!

Go to the recommended Guides Section and you will find Dogeggs softmod for 3.1-4.1. Make sure to check first that you actually are on 4.0.

No need to post a link to the guide you followed. (unless it is a guide from THIS site)

I quickly looked that up. Should I re-do all that to mine will it be a problem, do i need to undo what i have done...if so how.? from reading it, it does seem very similar to what i did. Once that has been done should i be able to add wad's easily.

You can follow it without removing anything. It won't cause any problems at all. Anything you install will just overwrite the previous install if it is there. This is a complete guide so the answer to your last question is yes.

EDIT : Uloader is old so you may want to use an updated loader such as Configurable USB Loader or Wiiflow. ( After you follow and complete the guide)

Look in the Error Index thread (Recommended Guides section) for a diagnosis and solution, please.

I have read through that and i don't see how it is any dif to the original guide. I will try formatting the card with the software recommended and see how that goes.
