4.2U Softmod to Virgin Help Needed

Hey guys, I've really done my best searching around and trying to figure out what my problems are, but I'm really stuck, and really worried at the moment so I need some help.

I had a softmodded 4.2U Wii that I used massie's guid for and everything was working perfectly well. I was playing games from USB HD and loading wads from my SD card for wiiware etc. Today I decided that I wanted to go back to a virgin console and I started following the guide here.

I'm using dogeggs guide, and I first installed the IOS6--- wad that he mentions at the top of the guide for 4.2 users. Then I put the necessary apps on my sd card and attempted to use them. I used NAND clean and everything seemed to work. I did not perform the final step in the clean as it wasn't for 4.2 users.

Then the problems started. I tried using AnyTitle deleter and got a TON of errors. Basically nothing was working with that app. Then I see in his guide that the nand clean shouldn't be performed until after updating, so I went and did a system update from the network. That didn't solve any of the problems with AnyTitle deleter and introduced a new error. Now when I use wad manager it hangs when trying to mount the drive.

SO...now I'm really in the dookie. I can't get anything uninstalled at this point and there are errors cropping up all over. I've decided to stop working as it seems I'm only hurting things. I don't want to brick the stupid thing (assuming I haven't already). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you verify your serial number before starting? Near the beginning of Dogeggs guide for virginizing, it states in BOLD letters not to try it on a Wii with a serial number of LU64 or higher.
It is also recommended to post Here for first timers, as you be supplied with some very informative links and guides, as well as our rules and regulations. Welcome to Wiihacks

Yeah, the serial number check is the one step I didn't do in this entire process, so this is likely where my problem lies? I haven't done anything irreversible yet have I?

Apologies on not posting in the forum for new users. I'll do that right away.

by "system menu update" are you referring to an official Nintendo firmware upgrade? if this is true (however ironic it would be considering you are already on 4.2) the IOS's that are injected with homebrew code are now stubbed, and you may need to re-softmod your console to enable homebrew app functionality. perhaps then you may be able to complete a proper virginization (haha, funny word.)

I am sorry, but I just cannot figure why anyone would want to "virginize" anyway. I have yet to see an issue here at Wiihacks that couldn't be resolved in time. I have seen Mauifrog help somone recover from what I thought to be a full blown brick, without bootmii as boot2. It may take some time but with a proper thread title that actually draws peoples attention to a problem, the issue will be solved. I would only consider virginizing as a LAST RESORT before I sent my console back to Nintendo for repairs.

I'm not sure if the IOS's were stubbed or not when I did the update from Nintendo, but I just finished using omgmaserati's guide and things seemed to work out fine. I did have to use several different IOS's throughout the process, I used 36 for nand clean and 250 for AnyTitle, but everything worked as it should with his guide. Thanks for the help.

Just go ahead and re-run the softmod to at least get back to a functional wii, the best guide for you is in my sig. Then if you still wish to virginize your wii afterwards, read the guide i followed which is also in my sig.

@ thatfloorguy, the only reason I wanted to virginize my Wii is that I felt like a dirty bastard for stealing games, if you want the honest to God truth. I didn't really expect to feel that way about it, as I've always stolen music and not really cared. But for some reason, stealing games just feels wrong to me. As I'm being trained to be a software engineer, maybe I feel like a hypocrite, I don't know?? Once I started playing my first pirated Wii game, something just felt...wrong. So, I decided to virginize the Wii and do things legit. Now I'm not sure that's why everyone else is doing it, but that's why I'm doing it.

That is a legit reason and quite commendable, I might add. For about $10 a month Usenet is a great place to legally get any game you can imagine. The paid sites have purchased the rights to all these games, movies, etc. I have a friend who owns a local video/game rental store, so most of my HDD is direct rips, but one cannot go wrong with a legit paid site as opposed to torrents. Eiter way, good luck with your venture and it is nice to see someone be honest. That doesn't happen often in todays world.

Um, that still wouldn't necessarily be legally obtained, just sayin...
