paid for a modchip, got a softmodded Wii
I decided to get a modchip to my wii and contacted a local modder.I paid for a modchip but when I got my wii and tried to play DVDs, I noticed that no modchip is attached to my wii but the device is softmodded.
A NeoGamma channel and a Homebrew channel is added to wii channels.
I called them and they told me that softmod has more advantages but I am not sure after I see all those threads on WiiHacks.com.It is too complicated
I tried to burn 3 iso files, tried 3 DVDs and only one of them worked.
So do you recommened me to bring the wii and ask for the modchip again or do you recommend me to keep the softmod and play via a USB drive?
I need an advice, thanks.
i would say go back get the modchip since i am guessing you paid for it...(you could of softmoded your wii for free lol)
Thanks for your reply Cile.
Yes I paid for a modchip. The problem is they told me that my wii was not suitable for a modchip so the softmod was the only solution. So if I can use the softmodded wii with a USB drive, without any problem, this will be ok for me.

Do NOT PM for Site or Wii Issues
The key point is that you paid for a product that was not received. A softmod is free. On this site we provide the applications used in the softmod process without charge as was intended. We also provide tutorials for softmodding that are current, maintained, and actively supported. As you were able to burn a working backup of one of your games successfully, that means your Wii does not have the D3-2 chip that prevents the Wii drive from using backup discs. Therefore, unless I misunderstood your story, a modchip will work in your Wii and the superior play and use of a USB HDD is not the issue for you as you are not comfortable with the softmod maintenance and precautions.
As per your report, you paid for something that was not received and was charged for something that is available without charge on this and other Wii hacking sites.
Thanks gen3sf, in that case I will ask for the modchip this weekend.
My brother's wii has a modchip and I will try my iso Dvds on his device next to see if the Dvds are ok.
Games on a usb drive apparently run faster than on dvds. I guess u had to paid for it, might aswell tell him to modchip it because softmodding is free.
I say go get what you paid for!

Did they even ring you and say that they were just going to do a Soft Mod instead of a hard mod before they did it?
I would be kicking up a stink
Yes, they offered to softmod it but I refused. But I guess it is not a rip off, I believe they were unsuccesful to attach the modchip and they tried to solve it somehow Or I am too naive.
Anyway, I don't want to make this a whining thread, I just want to learn if it is better to go with the softmod or get the modchip if they can.
According your replies I understand that I must go and ask for the modchip, get it, because I paid for it.Then I can softmod my device myself if it is needed.
Thank you for all your replies.

Well why did they take your wii in saying that they could do it in the first place.
