Play back ups from a HDD.

Ok, my friend got a wii and done some sort of mod where he could play games from his hdd. I done some research on the web and found out I had to download a whole bunch of things in order to do this.

Now he told me that with his mod when ever he put his game into his wii it ripped it direct to the HDD but all the tuts I find say that you have to do alot more than that.

My question is: Am I looking for the wrong stuff or does my friend have it wrong?

If not can someone point me in the right direction please?

You will first need to softmod your Wii. The links for the softmod tutorials are in the welcome post you received in response to your introduction. After successfully completing a softmod of your Wii, use this guide HERE to get your external USB HDD setup.

WiiFlow has the ability to copy the game disk directly to the HDD installed with the Wii by simply inserting it and pressing "Install Game" in the config menu. I'm sure the other USB loaders are the same, but since i have yet to use another, dont take my word for it. Follow the guides that gen3sf posted and you'll be where you want to be though.

Welcome to Wiihacks! The links that gen3sf spoke of can be found here as that is where new arrivals are recommended to post first. Our VWA will provide you with many links you will need on your journey, as well as the rules and regulations of our community. Most any usb loader is capable of doing direct rips to an HDD. Locate your system menu on your Wii, choose the proper guide, and we will be more than happy to help you as you progress.

Thanks alot. Got it all sorted. The only thing is I have downloaded a couple of games, burnt them to disc and popped them in. They have installed on to the hard drive but red steel 2 will not play. The screen goes green and then back to the wii menu. What have I done wrong? The other games play just fine.

Bit of a pain but got there in the end, just had to do the alt dol thing....lol. It was because of the WM+ video that had to play. Once the video got to play I had to change the dol back to default and it worked a treat.

Thanks for all your help peeps.
