Region change and then making virgin, plausible?

    Hi all,

I'm trying to understand if there is something / anything in the Wii (like a hardcoded value) that ultimately forces your Wii to always be recognized as its original region.

Essentially, what I'm trying to figure is if I do the following:

    1. Use the guides here to set up homebrew/anyregionchanger.
    2. Change my Wii from EU to US
    3. Use the DogEggs - Make your Wii a Virgin guide to virginify my Wii

Will I end up with a Wii that is to all intensive purposes a US Wii that could be used with the update channels e.t.c.?

I've had a good read through the forums by now and not found anything specifically addressing this although I've kind of pieced together the above plan from my readings. Does this plan sound feasible or is it fraught with peril?

I am not too sure about the region change, but if your Wii has a serial number of LU64 or higher, I believe that is it, you do NOT want to try to virginize it.

Hehehe no my Wii is as old as the hills. The last time I plugged it into the internet I downloaded IOS 3.2E. I'm about to go dig up all the material and download all the parts to commence step 1.

Awesome, Wanna trade?, LOL. The experiments I could do with bootmii as boot2

I wouldn't be afraid of any RECOMMENDED guide found here. Some of the user submitted ones may still be a little untested. As long as the guides are followed to the T, I would think it should be fine. I know Dogeggs "virgin" guide is recommended, will run a quick search on the other.

Do you plan on using this

Cool, I've got BootMii on as Boot2 and running the NAND backup as I type.
Noticed it seemed to get 4 bad blocks on the first run through but on the second(verify) run through the blocks they all seem to be good, is this normal / ok?
(I say 4 bad blocks, the PAL output on NTSC is all black and white so I think they were marked bad initially)

I was planning on using AnyRegionChanger for the second step as I'd read somewhere that the Waninkoko's changer had probs?

I guess it all boils down to what you want to accomplish in the end. That sounds like an awful lot of unnecessary work. What's the point to this, seriously?

I want to get my Wii running fully compatible in the US but I also have a family who when faced with questions like "An upgrade is available, would you like to upgrade now?" will almost definately click on yes. So basically I'd like my EU wii to become a virgin US wii.

On a side note, on DogEggs 3.1 to 4.1 guide the Trucha Bug Restorer section in step 3 claims on the warning that it's not needed for <3.3 (me being on 3.2) should I skip it or run anyways? Apologies if this is already answered about to go search the thread in case this has been asked already on there as well.

Yeah, I never thought about it, but forcing your region on loaders would have the same results as far as game play, with much less chance of something going wrong.

What he said coupled with Priiloader installed and the hacks enabled (like the one you worry about - block online updates, as well as disc updates) should make the task simple and straight forward, no need for all that other stuff. Priiloader directly supports 3.2 and 4.0 and up.
