Question Confusion over NAND backup and other stuff related to Softmodding.

I am looking at soft modding my 4.2 Wii, however everything I have read says to backup my NAND but then goes on to say not to ever restore the NAND on a 4.2 system with Bootmii as an IOS.

What is the point of backing up the NAND if I can't use it to recover or have I missed something here?

Also should I soft mod on my 4.2 or will my wii roll back to a 4.1 if I format it as a virgin wii before installing anything?

Lastly once soft modded my original games will still work as normal right?

Sorry for all the questions but I can't seem to find the answers anywhere.
    Cheers

Because u can use a nand flasher as a last resort to fix your wii and also in the future there may be a possibility of restoring by bootmii ios however unlikely its still worth just keeping a copy of the nand bin and keys.

Formatting doesn't return the firmware back it just deletes channels and saves, it is also not recommende to downgrade.

Just follow one of the 4.2 guides linked below and u will be fine.

No I was worried I would end up at a point where I couldn't turn back and couldn't go forward without a GC controller. Do you know if its possible and safe to back out of bootmii IOS if I can't navigate with thepower and reset buttons?
