OK update: Got Mario Strikers Charged to work with the same settings as Punch-out, region free, yes, -, yes. I tried a different dump of tatsunoko vs capcom and it always freezes after i select one character, loop music. Like i said im getting Verbatim DVD-R datalife plus later this week or next to see if it helps. Also extracting 2 different mario karts right now, will test at lunch. Im running Neogamma R8 B7, Cios249 Rev14. (neogamma might be incorrect, ill check again)

*Wii was bought @ circuitcity a year or so after it was release, but i still had to stand in line for it. I can get a model number if needed. It sits horizontal.

Yeah they were still really hard to find when I got mine in April-ish 2008. I got the last one we could find anywhere in the city at a Blockbuster video. Coincidentally two months later they started showing up everywhere in giant floor displays.

When you get the Verbatims try 4x burn speed, if it still gives issue try a slower speed. It probably isn't affecting this, but you could probably update Neogamma if you wanted to: http://www.wiihacks.com/software-bac...-channels.html

And while it also probably wouldn't affect your situation here, you could also update to cIOS38Rev17.

And be aware... it used to be the "Data Life" label of Verbatim would occasionally have crap media codes associated with it (their only folly, those Data Lifes) like CMC MAG --- which are total junk. Most of those are rated less than 16x, however. See here for an example of this media code on Verbatim 16x DVD+R (an isolated mediacode; most are MCC or a few are Yudens).

    So stick with regular Verbatim DVD-R? this is off of amazon.com: Amazon.com: Verbatim 95101 4.7 GB 16x 120 Minute Single-Sided DVD-R, 50-Disc Spindle: Electronics

Thanks for the help guys! will report with mario kart results after lunch!

Ok, i tried out 2 burns of mario kart, although i think they are the same ISO from different places. First try was region free, yes, -, yes. and it froze ~30 in. Then i hit force 480p, normal, yes. and was able to play a round of circuit and a short battle. Then rebooted the wii and tried again with the same settings and it froze at "0" timer when in circuit mode. Played the second burn with same settings and it froze during curcuit, wii mote on but not responding and was stuck going around in circles (froze on a turn). Im beginning to think its the burn and/or media? Playing fine then freezing at random times seems weird, and its a freeze where the game is still running but the wii mote doesn't respond? Does this mean it's a different problem?

I might rush (prime) 2-day verbatim for this weekend for testing and will borrow a good DVD writer from work to see if its because of my generic dvd that came with my dell (530).

DVD writer is a TSST corp with the newest firmware, can't write @ anything below 4x so thats what i write as.

    I think I can help

I just solved this problem. Install Hermes cios. You don't have to do it over cios249. Keep both. When you install Hermes cios, you will use uloader. I can't remember where the tutorial is. I found a similar one. Hermes cIOS 222 / 223 v5

    I hope this helps.

Not sure why Hermes cios would help as Mario Kart was the first game I played and it played A OK from disc and usb. I have got Hermes installed but dont use it for Mario Kart and play it through ios 249.

I would still install Hermes if you haven't already as it comes in handy for other games.

Ok, Thanks for the links and help guys, ill try and install the cIOS later next week. I recently burned Zelda and it froze the first time 30 seconds in. So i changed the settings (like i do with all games) to: -, 480p, normal, yes, - and -, yes, yes, -, yes. I got it to work, but interesting things happened. First the Wiimote/nunchuck somehow got "uncalibrated" and Link was running in circles to the right, but i was still able to play*. I then disconnected/reconnected the Wiimote from the home menu and i could play! The other thing was before this, i turned off Wiiconnect24 and was able to play Zelda and Mario Kart fine! Although this was 5 mins one time play through. My next step is to try tatsunoko vs capcom with Wiiconnect24 off and play some more Zelda and Mario Kart to see if any freezing occurs (hard job i know). Am I a newbie and should of had Wiiconnect24 off to begin with? I don't care about online multiplayer and internet. Would it even make a difference? The wii is not connected to the internet.

Im also getting Verbatim DVD-R tomorrow from amazon so i can test those out this weekend. Any comments about the Wiiconnect24 or the weird Wiimote/nunchuck problem with Zelda?

*This also happened in Mario Kart where my kart would spin to the right in circles but the difference was i could NOT control anything, but the game would continue like normal (a.i. still racing and my kart running into things). Zelda would pull to the right but if i hit left he would stop moving.

you can turn wiiconnect24 off and still play games online. the wiiconnect24 is for the wii menu and going to the shop and weather channel and internet and so on but as for online gaming, you can still do that with it off. i do it all the time.
