If you have a 3.1 - 4.1 version system menu, follow this guide

If your wii is system menu 4.2, follow this guide

Try searching next time before you post a question... good luck

if the wii was 4.0 or better more than likely it will be the dreaded d3-2, but it seems you are already prepared for it

As tristan says, the guides I gave a link to, will have you prepared to bypass the disc read security on the D3-2 drive, as long as the appropriate guide is followed.

Have fun with your new softmodded wii

ok i have read throuth the guide but can you explain the following ref

There is a new DVD drive chipset that is starting to emerge that will not play DVDR, if your Wii came with sys menu 4.0 or newer on it then it could be one, the chipset is known as a D3-2 and the only way of telling if you have one is to open her up, but as this will invalidate your warranty you are better off trying to load DVDRs and if you just keep getting errors then it is a good indication that you have one. The USB loader will still work though so just follow the guide as normal.

the hilited bit about dvdrs are you saying install all home brew and if it reads a back up disc fine if not then you have the latest d3-2

i pluged in my wii and thinking it would be 4.0 system menu as it was bought brand new but it is 3.4e system firmware.
does this mean that i do not have the latest d3-2 drive or am i barking up the wrong tree.

You may not have the d3-2 drive, but regardless, if you follow the right softmod tutorial you shouldnt have any issues regarding disc read... as I said, you are prepared.

You may have the d3-2 drive because the wii is new, but the firmware hasnt been updated.

    Hope I answered your questions
