question about bootmii, well, actually its not about Bootmii, it's more a softmod.

hello everyone. i am just starting to think of soft modding my WII that i got in February 2006. i have been reading through all the guides and have a question about the bootmii app.

in your guide it says that you can do a NAND backup of your wii's virgin state but it says you have to install it as boot2 and if you get an error you have to install it as an IOS and from the sounds of it if you are forced to install it as IOS then the backup is useless because if you restore it it can brick your wii?

i don't really want to try and soft mod my wii without a safe way to restore it in case something goes wrong or in case in the future nintendo starts banning people for soft modding.

Congratulations on getting a Wii before they were released.

If it was purchased in 2006, 2007 and up to August 2008 then you should be able to install bootmii/boot2.

And don't worry about Nintendo being able to trace it anyway.

edit:my wii has also been updated to firmware 4.2U. would that also affect the outcome of installing bootmii to boot2?

No it wouldn't. Nintendo cannot remove the vunerability in boot1 that enables bootmii/boot2 to be installed to the Wii. Mod away.
