    Question Wii flow using forwarder - loading from HDD. Advice pls

    Morning All,

    I have been using Wiiflow for a few months now launching games from my HDD. The have the HDD partitioned 5GB Fat32 and the remainder as WBFS. After doing research I found that wiiflow is now open source and under continued development. In order for me to use these latest updates I found that I will need to use wiiflow with a forwarder rather than as a system channel which is the way i originally had it installed. So following the guide and information here (http://www.wiihacks.com/submit-artic...-settings.html) and downloading the file package I undertook these steps in order to use wiiflow with a forwarder.

    1. Uninstalled current Wiiflow app with WAD manager
    2. Extracted the files obtained in guide to the root of another SD card
    3. Launched HBC and WAD manager from my usual SD card then swapped
    4. Mounted new Wiiflow SD card
    5. Installed "WiiFlow StarNight Channel Forwarder-WSNF.wad"
    6. Created folder "wiiflow" in the '\apps\' (on SD card)
    7. Copied the contents from "WiiflowR25_249" folder to '\apps\wiiflow\' (on SD card)
    8. Also copied the contents from "WiiflowR25_249" to '\wiiflow\' folder (on SD card)

    Now back in the system menu with my wiiflow SD card inserted and HDD attached I launched the new wiiflow channel created. This launched into the wiiflow application worked as expected.
    Given that I have partitioned my HDD I would like to only run wiiflow from one device, therefore removing the requirement to always have a SD card installed (like how i had it before). So again following the guide I placed the files in the expected locations.

    1. Backed up the files in the Fat32 partition
    2. Created folder "wiiflow" in the '\apps\' (on Fat32 partition of HDD)
    3. Copied the contents from "WiiflowR25_249" folder to '\apps\wiiflow\' (on Fat32 partition of HDD)
    4. Also copied the contents from "WiiflowR25_249" to '\wiiflow\' folder (on Fat32 partition of HDD)

    Once done I booted back into HBC, inserted my normal SD card and launched WAD Manager 1.4. Mounted the HDD to ensure the FAT32 partition can bee seen and contents read. Exited from there back to the system menu and launched wiiflow, this time my wii just restarted going back to the system menu. Now the above guide says;

    For the forwarder to load, it MUST find the boot.dol file from the wiiflow folder. If the forwarder is constantly rebooting to the system menu, you performed this step incorrectly.

    Forwarder looks for these exact paths (in this order):

    * SD:\apps\wiiflow\boot.dol
    * SD:\wiiflow\boot.dol
    * USB(FAT):\apps\wiiflow\boot.dol
    * USB(FAT):\wiiflow\boot.dol
    I have double checked that wiiflow boot.dol files are located in the expected place on Fat32 partition of HDD and tried again still does not launch from HDD. I do not think its a drive compatibility problem as can mount and view contents of HDD no problem. Have also not had any problems in playing games from this HDD, just the known bugs which I hope to correct using these newer versions.

    Can anyone offer any assistance for me here. Any help/advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Scar1

    Your USB HDD must be formated as FAT and not as FAT 32! FAT 16 is FAT!

    So,backup all files and format HDD as FAT and put all files back together.

    And also if u don't have hermes cios 202,222,223 only one USB port will work!
    So if u get same message again try another USB port on wii!

    Hi Wadder,

    Thanks for the response, ill do that now and let you know the results. I used Fat32 due to the maximum volume size limitation with Fat16, also assumed that FAT32 would be ok.
    Will feedback shortly!

    Cheers

    Hi Wadder,

    Ok backup up my partition, reformatted partition for FAT16. Dumped files back onto that partition and tried again. Unfortunately with the same results, system just restarts does not launch into wiiflow.
    Nice try though.....

    Thanks

    Try this... When you go into wiiflow channel. let the wiiflow letters start spinning before you hit start, this has been an issue on a modded 4.0E, but doesn't make a difference on a modded 3.4 (to 4.1).
    Thank me or Spank me but leave some feedback

    Nah did not try the other as USB HDD only works in the lowest USB port. The HDD mounts ok in this port as I do it in the WAD Manager before hand just to make sure

    U are on 3.4 as same as me!But unfortunately I had a same issue with USB Loader GX and Wii flow.All u need to do is to use neogamma.I know that wiiflow is better.
    But u ment that lowest port is workin' but upper is not?That's the IOS 249's effect.So u must install hermes cios 222.U can find guide here.

    cheers

    Cheers again Wadder, correct the bottom port is working. One above does not work and to be honest I can live with this as I only ever will have one HDD attached at one time, well so far anyway.
    Worst case senario here is that ill have to have the SD card installed for wiiflow to work in this way, just that it does not make much sense to me as why this is not working. Currently wiiflow is looking at the HDD partition for all the covers etc and that works fine. Im not going to give up just yet....
    Any other suggestions from anyone......?

    Thanks again for all comments so far.
