we also have a hard mod section that show the type of mods available.
Hardmods are very easy and requires almost no maintenance
and not really affected by wii game update except for the region compatibility(wii fw 4.2)

with the new Hard Mods, its almost impossible to Brick your wii, if you are worried about that.

only thing with hardmods is they are NOT FREE, but the recommended way if all you want to do is play games with dvds or hard drives without having to learn all about how or to have to maintain your softmodded wii

Agreed. Hardmods are so easy to maintain. If you decide to softmod you will need to learn how to keep it up-to-date via IOS updates and learn workaroundsa for so many games that have protection these days.

Plus hardmods are giving us USB loading these days, which is the killer feature we all crave at the end of the day.

I'm a hardmod and softmod User.

If I had the funds available, I would go Hardmod.

Me too, both hard- and softmod.
The REASON, I got my Wii back in the beginning when I believe that was the only way, right? Yikes, a time without softmod...

I’ve soft modded my Wii and I mainly use it for Wiiflow, because of it’s awesome graphic interface, and for classic game emulators launched by forwarder channels. I understand that the newest mod chips support a USB connection. I’m curious about the limitations of the USB connection. Questions: 1) do newest modchips allow loading from the USB with a program of your choice like Wiiflow? 2) do newest modchips allow putting in forwarder channels for things like classic game emulators?

my noob question is: If i use a modchip can i keep up updating my wii's firmware if i want and still have no problems booting copied dvds or using whatever possibilites my modchip is giving me, for practically ever???
and if so, since i got a launch wii, shall i just choose a modchip depending on price and what it does, rather than worrying of it being future-proof???

4.2 update will stop you from running out of region games.

i have already updated to 4.2, and i kinda like to update, as every now and then a new feature is added, except the security patches.

so the firmware update it does affect even the modchips in a way, but is the region lock the only problem, or with a future update may possibly lock the wii so that does not even boot copied games, or even stops working -since its modded..?
I mean ofc in the forseeable future and as far as ppl who knows how these things work can tell, as anything may be possible, but not really probable.

...and further more if there is real danger and i need a future-proof hard mod, what can that be, or at least what characteristics am i looking for???


on the other side if a further locking of a hardmoded wii is Not very probable via update, is more or less any hardmod ok, as far as it is working in my wii and i like its price and features?

sorry for repeating myself, but while i am a real noob, and i haven't really researched this forum thoroughly, i have actually been looking for a good moding a long long time now, and i always postpone it as something better is in the corner --always-- and as new features are being offered, while new firmwares are presenting new challenges.

I have tried to "consult" some ppl here -where i live-- that sell/install modchips, but they seemed they knew even less than me and only trying to sell their stock!
so this question -how and if the firmware updates can effect a hard-moded wii- is really important to me, and here it seems the right place to ask it!!

You need to do some research. I answered your question above. The limitation right now for mod chips is the 4.2 update that wont let you play put of region disks. There is not much reason to update though nintendo if you hard and softmod. Comes down to preference so do some reading about it.
