Backups are always recomended. Sounds like you don't have the BootMii files on the root of your SD [this is a folder called bootmii with 3 files inside, armboot.bin, ppcboot.elf and bootmii.ini]. You can run the bootmii installer again and select the option "prepare SD", this will then load the files you need for BootMii to work.

DID YOU INSTALL BOOTMII AS BOOT2 OR IOS bootmii as boot2 is best brick protection as this starts when you switch wii on but like s0ur said you must have bootmii folder on root of sd card for it to work....bootmii as ios is booted via the homebrew channel...

Define not work. If you are trying to choose options by using the WiiMote, then FAIL on you. BootMii can only be used with a GameCube controller or the face buttons of the console [power to cycle options and reset to select].

A NAND backup is roughly 512mb so your card will not cut it. In your case if your able to install as boot2 then a NAND backup is a MUST! This will get you out of any brick your console comes across. Boot2 is the way to go.

Can you get bootmii as a WAD. I got it to run but it didn't install yesterday, now I can't get it to start the install option at all. Nothing in 'home' on homebrew browser.

You need to use the BootMii installer. BootMii.org

Done that , it did work now it won't. Is it THAT fussy on the SD card that it sometimes works.

I've now got preloader to work and enabled all settings except move disk channel.

Only thing I want bootmii for is to do a back up. Could I have installed it to ISO by mistake, and thats why I can't get it to start again ?

Even if you installed it as IOS you would still be able to install as boot2, what happens when you try to re-install?

And yes bootmii can be VERY fussy about cards. SanDisk 2gb NON-SDHC cards work the best, as well as PNY 2gb NON-SDHC cards [this is what i used to mod my console].
