I'm looking into this too at the momment. I have a Black Wii with the newest chipset so DVD-R Backup Loading is a no-no, but I am trying to find out if the Black Wii can play retail DVD Movies through MPlayerCE as i am having the exact same problems as you.

    libdi and the DVDX installer.

Try the patched install, for some it works better, even though they do not have a mod chip.

Have a read around - you may pick up more info to help you with your particular case as well.

You need DVDx so that your Wii will read non-game DVD discs. That is installed through the bannerbomb bootmii installer (also comes with DVDx). OK that allows it to read the disc, but NOT play the disc. You need Mplayer (CE is the best edition) to play the disc; can be installed through HB Browser. OK got it? DVDx to read the disc ands Mplayer to play the disc. So you have to install BOTH. It will play retail DVDs and DVD-Rs, unless it is a black Wii, I think.

I have installed DVDX via Boot.elf file in the SD section (the one that pops up)

    It read as SUCCESS!

Also I have installed MPlayer CE in APP section.

Loaded the MPlayerCE and Played DVD and nothing happens...

So the first we need to do is get your Mplayer "talking" to the DVDR drive, which is why you can't play DVD movies yet.

Did you try the patched DVDX from the suggestion above?
