    Gamecube Memory card

I bought a gamecube memory card from Game Stop today. When I got home I put it in my wii and went to see if any saves where left on it from the previous owner. I got a message saying that the card needed to be formated, do you want to format now? How safe is this. I know this may seem like a trivial question, but after hearing over and over again that an update can brick your wii, I'm a little leery of these kinds of things.

lol it is wanting to format the gamecube memory card, not the wii.
Sent from my van, down by the river.

This happens sometimes with memory cards that use a flash type system. Especially if they have been sitting around unused for X amount of time. All information degrades over time either it be on flash media, cd media or otherwise. So most likely the memory card had some degradation within itself and just needs to be formatted to get back to square one.
