Wii frozen during homebrew installation from SD card

I downloaded homebrew 4.1 to my SD card and have been installing this on my Wii, but now it seems to be stuck in the middle of the process. I have been following the tutorial to the letter but something has gone very wrong.

I got up to where it says click on boot2.dll and. after clicking it, the Wii will not respond to any command from the remote controller. The screen shows only the WAD band across the top, but no writing below that to select (as it did in the tutorial). I tried simply pressing 'A' repeatedly with no result.

I need help ASAP as I don't know if simply restarting the Wii will cause permanent damage.

    Thanks in advance,
    R

    Thanks, but...

that is good information, but I'm afraid the problem goes a bit deeper. Seems the screen only displays the Wad banner across the top - and NOTHING below. There is no file or action below that banner to choose and click.
