How is loading games directly from HBC possible?

I learned of softmodding my wii from my friend this past weekend and so I followed the tutorial and got everything up and running, but not the same way my buddy's wii is set up.

Currently, I have USB Loader GX as a channel, so I load that up and then select my game.

My buddy, well he starts up HBC, and then all the games are listed there as icons.

What I want to know is what mod does he have installed that allows him to do that? The website he used is no longer up for some reason and he's more clueless than I am and has no idea what he did after he did it.

So any help would be cool.

Homebrew channel displays apps on the sd card usually from wiibrew.com. there are apps and games available there as well as emulators that can be setup to play some of the older consoles as well. Anything that is a boot.dol file inside a folder that is inside the apps folder will be displayed on the homebrew channel.

    sd:/apps/uno/boot.dol

Not sure what your friend did but if he/she is loading wii games from the homebrew channel it is more likely they are running a type of loader from the homebrew channel that displays and plays their wii games.

Without wishing to diss your info, are you sure each single game has a separate icon in the HBC Apps folder, or is it in fact just that he loads into HBC first then chooses his USB loader, which is different to your loader, and has his options to view the games again just different to the way you to?

You can of course create channels for each game on your USB HDD, but they appear as channels on the Wii menu.
