    Prevent Wii from updating itself

I recently got a Wii from a friend who bought one in 2006 but never used it. (Apparently it had just been in his closet) I'm pretty new to all of this, but I figured hard modding it would be good so I ordered a Wiikey2 yesterday (not even knowing it was possible to do softmods then)

Today though, I thought I'd check out what Wii firmware version I have and as soon as I connected the Wii to the LAN it started updating itself.. I got kind of desperate and turned the router off which fortunately stopped the update.

    Q1.
Will my Wiikey2 (which hasnt arrived yet) prevent these kinds of firmware updates??

    Q2.
How do I connect my Wii to the internet without the firmware upgrade starting?

    Thanks

The main thing that will prevent updating is to click the no button when the prompt comes up. Turn wiiconnect24 off and enable parental controls. If you softmod install preloader with the hacks to prevent updates from disks.

The wii isn't gonna just update itself you have to agree to it.

Wii not recognizing mic when using HDD

I rented Boogie for my son. The mic works fine from the disc. When I load from HDD it keeps saying to plug in mic. I think I am on the right track...I have Hermes cios installer. Is there a custom ios or wad I need to get in order for the Wii to recognize instruments and such from the second usb port?

I had another go and there is no Yes/No question. Just a "OK" button..

So what I did was, entered wifi details, did a test connection, the wii said it successfully connected, and next there's a message saying it'll update the firmware and a button saying OK.

I thought I'd use the Wiikey2 chip, so will it prevent upgrades??
(Tried the parental control too, didn't help..)

Wiiconnect24 is grayed out in the settings.
I assume I have to be able to click the "Wiiconnect24" button to disable it or is it done elsewhere?

i'm guessing you need to have it connected through your router before you can change the connect24 and other internet settings

    Ok, here's the situation

I can't disable WiiConnect24 because the button itself is grayed out (it's not possible to push it) in the console settings. When I try to connect the console to my wifi network, I enter the passphrase for the wifi network, then I click on "Do a test connection" and after a message that says "You successfully connected" I click the "OK" button and then I get another message saying "Time to update your console firmware" and there's an "OK" button there. In other words, there are no No/Yes options and it doesn'r seem possible to disable WiiConnect24.

I have a japanese console so the messages above are quickly translated
