It is best to follow the 3.1-4.1 softmod guide and use the updater in the guide to get to 4.1.

You could do that, but alot of ppl have great difficulty softmodding at this point. Shadow sonic has a guide to softmod 4.2 as well and it is a different method than before so it may work for you. I personally will never recommend updating to 4.2 because it does nothing to improve the performance of the wii, it was only created as an attemp to block softmodding.

o rite can u explain in more detail to my m8 why its best this way?
sorry for all the questions just some guy on a diff site said to me

why not upgrade to 4.2 through nintendo you will be on the latest update,no need to worry about disc updates, you will have latest shop channel so you can download bbc iplayer and other apps, you can get preloader working if your bootmii was installed as iso, cant think of any reason to stop on 3.3 and you cant install preloader on 3.3 there is no system hacks

Well as i said before there was nothing in the 4.2 update to enhance the gaming experience at all. there are work arounds in the guides to get all the things working that you mentioned. there are preloader hacks for system menu 4.1, which the 3.1-4.1 softmod guide will take you to. If you were an experienced modder I would have no trouble telling you it is ok to update to 4.2 first, but I am assuming you are not experienced and it is more difficult to softmod.

yeah thats what i thought after reading the guides myself just thought the 4.2 must be really worth it if he was telling me to do it that way. most ppl on the site where soft mod that not sure y.

but u defo think i should go from 3.1 to 4.1 its worth the extra work in the guide u said about? is risky i can brick it after i softmod it if i dont update right mate?

3.3 is not a stable version and as previously mentioned there are no hack for the preloader that will enable blockin disk updates. Just make sure your wifi connection is set up and turn wiiconnect24 off. then when you get to the point in the guide it will explain the steps needed to get to 4.1. FYI i softmod at least one wii a week and have never updated my own wii since 4.0. I am very experienced and have helped many ppl.

yeah i knw what ur saying im a bit confused now coz i didnt knw tell i read ur guide there that it says 4. UPDATE YOUR SYSTEM MENU VERSION

Warning - If you don't install the patched IOS60 first you will brick!

This step is optional unless you are on 3.1, 3.3 or 3.4 in which case you must update

i just found this site the last hour but on the other site i was learning a guide below. is it wrong below or im i missing something here sry for the long post hope its not against rules

    WARNING
    -------
Use this software at your own risk. IPTorrent, the uploader and the developers take no responsibility if you damage your Wii.

This Will work on all Wii firmware versions from 3.0 to 4.1.
(I recommend updating your Wii to 4.2 and using the 4.2 hack)

This is for those who have not soft-modded their Wii's or for those that updated through Nintendo from a previous firmware.

This has not been tried on Korean Wii's, use at own risk.

There are some new Wii DVD drives that will not read copied DVD's at all, you can't tell by a serial number either, you can however install and use a USB HDD instead of burning games.

    PART 1:
    -------

Insert SD card into Card Reader on your PC.

Backup your SD Card if you want to keep the data on it.

Format your SD card in FAT format.

Extract all files in Part1.rar straight to your SD Card.

Insert the SD Card into the Wii.

Click on Wii Settings in the bottom left.

    Select Data Management.

Select Channels and click SD up the top.

You should be presented with a "Load boot.dol/.elf" message, click OK.

In the HackMii installer go ahead and install Bootmii (To both IOS and Boot2 if possible).

    Install the Homebrew Channel.

    Then install DVDx.

    Exit the HackMii installer.

    PART 2:
    -------

Insert SD card into Card Reader on your PC.

Extract all files in Part2.rar straight to your SD Card overwriting all files that already exist.

Insert the SD Card into the Wii.

    Start the Homebrew Channel

Press the "HOME" button on the Wii controller and choose BootMii.

After a few seconds you will be loaded into the CIOSrev14 Installer.

When prompted which IOS to use, scroll to the left and select "Do not reload IOS"

Choose WAD install and press A.

Once finished restart the Wii and open the Homebrew Channel.

Open the Wad Manager from the Homebrew Channel (Not by pressing HOME and Bootmii)

Choose IOS IOS249 when it asks what IOS to use (It will should already be selected)

Choose SD Card and install "NeoR7.wad"

    Exit out of Wad Manager.

You should now be done and have NEO gamma on your Wii's main channels page. (This loads copied games)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

FINAL STEP Wii system 4.0 and 4.1 only, (if you are on version 3.x you are done and don't need this step.)

    Open Homebrew Channel

    Open DOP-IOS

    Choose to download IOS60

Once it completes you are done

You can now delete everything on your SD Card and copy back your old files.
