USB loader GX as channel instead of through Homebrew channel

    Hi guys,

Thanks to a lot of info I successfully installed the Homebrew channel on my 4.2 Wii and changed a couple of things I didn't like ("health screen" skip for one) through the system menu settings in Priiloader.

I managed to get an external hard drive hooked up to my Wii and now my games are on it and I can access them with USB loader GX.
It all works fine so far.

What I want and haven't been able to do:

I would like to be able to access USB Loader GX directly as a channel.
I know it can be done. I also know about precious system memory and don't really care since this is pretty much the only channel add-on I want.
I saw some info about it but I can't figure out how to make it work. I saw something about grabbing a wad file and it should install by itself but it doesn't. ...and many searches all over the site haven't helped.

Forwarders, wad, dol, ULNR... I'm stumped, can you help ?

I hope to be pretty much set from there on out.

    Thanks.

I know the file was listed in the 3.1-4.1 softmod guide as a optional file at the end of the guide. you can grad it there. It is a wad file that needs to be installed with wad manager.

    Wow !

    That was quick.

I'm thinking this would be the file on this page here:
Downloads (USB Loader GX) (third tick box under "channels")

And I need WAD manager to install it, Ok.
Got WAD manager under "apps" on the SD card.
Now, if you don't mind too much, please point me in the right direction to make it all come together.

    Thanks a bunch.

Here is where the link you gave took me to the channels.

4shared - free file sharing and storage - share folder - USB Loader GX Channel WADs

It should be a .wad file that needs places in the wad folder of the sd card. Go to homebrew cannel and open wad manager to install it.

You can grab any wad file revision from HERE if you want. Download the .wad file to your SD card-place the wad file in the Wad folder. Now, put the SD card back into the Wii, go to HBC, run Wad Mgr, leave it at its default settings of IOS249 and SD card slot. Select the WAD directory and install your USB Loader GX revision wad file.

    Thank you so much.

I'll give it a try in a few minutes and report back as soon as I'm done.

    Thumbs up

    It worked !!

Thank you so very much oddgriffin & gen3sf.

I don't think I would have been able to figure that part out on my own without spending many more hours than I already have spent looking through tutorials and googling for it.

'Problem' solved. And I learned how to install a wad file using wad manager in the process.

Lol yea Gen doesn't usually say much, but when she does I can just kindly step back and let the magic happen. One of the few ppl we have here that can put themself in other ppl shoes and explain the details some of us forget about.

Step by step is more than I was hoping for here and it's greatly appreciated.

I've read the rules and the stickies and I was kind of expecting the first reply to my initial post to be a link to some part of a thread I had missed while searching or worst, a link to exactly what I wanted to do, which would have helped but might have left the door open for me to mess up or in need of more directions.

But nope, I got a real answer from people who took time to help.

Glad you got it working for you.

@oddgriffin-I'm not sure over 6000 posts could be described as not saying much I often have to revise my posts to cut down on my explanations. At least your observation reassures me I'm not excessively wordy.
