    Newbie Questions

    Hi all,

How do I go about finding out what model Wii I have and how do I mod it? Is there a good tutorial that most people use?

    Thanks!

How long ago did you buy the wii? If it was just bought, then the chip inside wont allow you to play backup games anyways. You would need a HDD then instead. You also need to decide if you want hardmod or softmod. The model number is found on the casing of the console itself (just like it is for all consoles).
If I have helped you in any way, please thank me by pressing the little thanks button.

Read the stickies before you post, dude. The answers to 99% of questions are there. Because these questions have been answered since the stone age, people on forums tend to get annoyed or think you forgot how to read.

Thanks for the quick reply. It bought it new about 2 years ago. What is the difference between a hardmod and softmod?

Sorry, but there are so many tutorials which look the same, so they get confusing for somebody just coming into this.

Well since you got the wii 2 years ago, you dont have to worry about that chip being in the console. What you do need to know though is that you might not be able to install bootmii as boot2 (but thats another topic). Anyways, a hardmod is a modchip. A modchip will still allow you to play backup games from the disc channel. A softmod on the other had is all software releated, need to be cautious on what you can and cant do, and you run the games through a backup launcher, backup games that is.

Find out what system menu you have first, then let us know.

The more info - the better.
Please remember your manners - say Thank You if someone helped , it doesn't hurt

Very true. Knowing the firmware is good for us to know, but since you dont have a new new console, you wont have 4.2. You also dont have the new chip that doesnt allow burned games to work (disc method) Only thing you might have to worry about is for bootmii can get installed. That program is best when you can install it as a boot2. But once again, we havent gotten to that stage yet.

So what would be the best one to do? The hardmod I guess?

    What is bootmii?

I want to be able to just burn my game and chuck it in really. Is that possible?
