    Several NOOB questions, (post softmod)

Yesterday, I completed my the softmod from 4.2 and used USB Loader GX to transfer all of my games (all originals) to the external HDD. I can now play all of my games from the external drive.

    My questions are:

    NEOGAMMA
what exactly is Neogamma for? Is it strictly for playing burned wii discs? I added it as a channel on the main Wii Menu, but now I think I want to remove it and only run it from Homebrew if I ever need it (for protection reasons, see later concern), how do I do this?

    PRIILOADER
The instructions said this was optional and somewhat risky, so I didnt install it, but I believe I need to install this to shut off Wii update notifications? Is this correct?

    HOMEBREW CHANNEL
After following the messie's instructions in "Full hacking guide for 4.2 system menus!!!!", every time I launch HBC, it wants to update me from 1.0.5 to 1.0.6, should I do this?

    CUSTOMIZE / PROTECT Wii Menu
The main reason I wanted to run everything from the external hard drive is because I have a 3 yr. old that loves to scratch, break, and lose discs. So now with everything on the hard drive, I at least have a backup copy and he doesnt have to mess with the discs anymore. I was hoping he wouldnt figure out how to load and play games from USB Loader GX, but he saw me do it one time and figured it out. I tried moving the USB Loader to the far right on the Wii Menu by dragging it and that didnt help, he knows where it is now. Is there any solution to not allowing access to certain Wii menu items? Can I hide them better or password protect them maybe? I am afraid he will get into Homebrew Channel, Neogamma, or USB Loader and totally mess things up.

Thanks in advance for any help

This is mainly used to run from disk but can run from any device. It also seems to work well when other loaders can't so it is a good option to have if you need it.

As far as homebrew items, remove the sd card and nothing will be there for him to activate.

You may just want to dissconnect the hard drive when not in use and present to see what is going on.

so can i assume once USB Loader GX is a Wii Channel, there is no way to restrict access to launching it?

    son of a ..

i may be too late. i just got this email from my wife.

"well it was only a matter of time. he did something to the Wii already. the screen with all of the games will not load, it is a bunch of words/code. you will have to fix it when you get home. i have no idea what he did."

After hitting start on USB Loader GX, she said the screen says "exception DSI occurred" along with other messages

Note: this is after I had her remove the SD card from the Wii.

Ill have her put the card back in and see if that had anything to do with it.

It was the sd card. there is data on there that the app needs. covers and configuration files. I use a small 128 meg card I happened to have from an old mp3 player.

    works with SD card

ok, so it works with the SD card in.

i must not have something set up correctly, looking for advice on this.
    ---

I didnt see the above post while i was typing that.

So I need an SD card at all times, but earlier was advised to remove it so the Homebrew Channel would be rendered useless.

Apparently I need to copy certain things from this SD card to another one and just leave the other one in there. What directories and files should I retain from my current SD card so Homebrew Channel cant activate anything, but USB Loader GX will operate?

I have this problem too. USBLoader gx won't work without the sd card in, even though I installed the wad (three times). Is there any way to fix this?

    tutorial

from messie's tutorial, it was my interpretation that if you installed as a full channel (which i did), that you wouldnt constantly need the SD card.

"-If you want USB loader GX as a channel, install USBLoaderGXr850.wad (this will install the full channel, but you can install the forwarder instead, USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder.wad, which can be directly updated by placing updated version in the SD card, yet you will need the SD card constantly inside the Wii slot to launch it. Install whichever sounds more useful to you)"

i do have a FAT32 partition on my external HD, so im going to see if i can store my USB Loader files on that instead. If i figure this out, ill post my solution.
