1. Post and Ask to Members
2. Search (lol i know this is a new concept)
3. Reading the Wonderful Guides on the Site

Many noobs post and post and the answers are a search click away. Many mods and advance members are tired of the #002 Error Posts and the "My Game Wont Load - Black Screen Issue"... Please for everyone that is new to the site try something before you post "Search"...

This site is linked into the google adwords and googles search function... For Example:

1. Search here on wiihacks using Search function for: NSMB Fix - - You will get pages and pages of info.

2.Put a simple search string in at google like this: "NSMB Guide wiihacks" - - and the first result is the guide for NSMB from Wiihacks..(OMG-look at that)

SO.............. please please before you post "search" becasue 65% of the answers you will ask can be found by doing this on wiihacks search or google...

This is an excellent way to find information on the site, for anyone reading. The Google SE is quite advanced and in some cases (like above) it really helps narrow down info. There're a lot of posts on this forum, and sometimes you should take all the help you can get before making your posts. ;)

Considering I only joined 16 days ago I am now at a point to start helping others in the noob section.

Why....I read, search, read, print, read some more, search some more and then read again before posting a question.

Helped out on quite a few forums e.g. surfboard hacks, Liteon HDD recorder hacks, osCommerce custom modules and tweaks and most active for Nokia Dbx hacks etc without knowing a thing before I started so it can be done quite easily.

On this forum my first post had in the first reply

But then again every forum for mods/hacks has this problem. Its just the clutter that makes it harder for those those of us that do search etc that really gets me.

Maybe the site needs this as a sticky on every page or a banner.

I think the biggest problem for newbs is all the new stuff. Its overwhelming, there is so many new words that you don't understand when you get into this stuff. Its scary.

At least that's how it was for me. After reading for about 5 hours(lol!) I became comfortable enough to be able to follow the guides and do stuff to my wii. Unfortunately, most people don't take the time required to learn what needs to be learned, they just want instant gratification, a free modded wii without any effort.

That is why i included these links in my sig. Most people link to guides and stuff. But i think for newbs, the guides are too much for them, its like theyre in a different language.

I think this adds to the search problem. If people don't take the time learning stuff, even searching is useless to them. They'll either not know what to look for, or if they do find something, they will have no idea what to do with it. Wiihacks is filled with stickies to prevent this, even the auto response to your first post links you to good stuff you should read over. Most people just ignore it i think.

bigjat, you went about it the right way.

I hear whar you're saying about being over whelming, I had over 220 sides of printed A4 and a hell of a lot more pages saved as 'webpage complete' in a seperate folder.

What really helped it sink in was printing and underlining all the 'what i shouldnt do or i will brick' info using a red pen and other keypoints with a highlighter.

A few reams of paper and a printer cartridge are not only cheaper than a brick but handy if wifi or PC go kaputt.

I even had a couple in the bathroom to read when having 22222. You have got to want to learn the reasons why, not just the what.

But that tenacity is in short supply these days, too many people just want to be spoon fed.

As my old teacher used to have on a banner over his blackboard:

"Fail to prepare, prepare to fail."

EDIT - perhaps the default search function should return 'posts' rather than threads? A lot of people may search but then have to go through 100(0)s of pages before getting to the right post relevant to their question.

Dont think many people know you can select to return posts and save that as your default.

OMG.... looking through the last couple of posts are hilarious...

and the reading material in the bathroom... hahaha (sitting next to the car and driver in the bathroom is Wiihacks.com Magazine on how not to brick your wii....) lol

It's pretty sad lol. Half the time I just have to ignore alot of these. Even after you give a clear answerer, they want every step by step or an exact link instead of looking. We can't come to your house and mod it for you, if this stuff is over your head get a friend to help or stop it before you brick your wii.

So any thoughts on this becoming a sticky????
