    Wii 4.0e softmod

    Hi there

Completely new to all this so I have a lot of questions but i'll start off slow.

I'm hoping to try to softmod my wii 4.0e using bannerbomb and hackmii.
I've spent 2 days reading various posts and a lot of stuff on this website.
There is so much info i'm starting to suffer from softmod blindness.

    So just a few queries.
When I install HBC, dvdx and boot.2 will I be able to play downloaded .iso games or will I have to do something else (like the iso-ciso thing)?

When I have done the above can I still play the original games I have?

Do I need the SD card everytime?

I'm sure the answers are out there but like I said I've taken in too much info to make sense of it all now.

    1. you will have to finish the entire guide first (and yes you need custom ios's)
2.yes you can play oringinal games
3.i would get yourself a 2gb sd card dedicated to your wii, so yes you need a sd card to stay in the wii. some programs require it to be there (i.e homebrew)

As emuhack mentioned, use dogeggs awesome guide:

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html

Its been used successfully by thousands of people, and solutions to any problem you could encounter will be posted there. You'll need to do the entire guide to play backups.

If you only want to play backups, then once you've completed the guide you can take the sd card out and play backups from the neogamma channel or a usb loader channel. This means if you go into HBC nothing will appear (since the HBC apps are stored on the SD card), but this is probably a good idea if kids are using your wii, since they can't go in there and brick your wii by playing wii dangerous apps there. Make sure you keep the SD card in a safe place though, in case you need to use HBC again later on.

    Hi emuhack.

    Thanks for the response.

I've had a look at dogeggs tutorial. It's a very good guide but I don't have an internet connection for my wii and I am not registered to download the link he uses to download the software so I can't use his guide.

    Thanks for the other info.

You only need to be online to update your firmare to 4.1 (step 4 in dogeggs tutorial). However this step can be done offline. See post #9567 (or #5005) in the same thread:

    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...y-wii-957.html

gen3sf explains how to this here, and provides a link to the files (there is also a link to the system menu files at the end of step 5 in the tut). I did it on a friends wii and worked fine. You just install the new system menu from wad manager instead. Make sure you get the correct file though: PAL, NTSC-U or NTSC-J.

Thanks again to emuhack and chuck_thunder for all the help.
I've one more query to put out there.

I've fully installed as per dogegg's guide.
I burned a game to a disk which didn't work in the drive.
I checked my serial number and was told there was a 100% chance that it's a D3-2(v2) chipset.

So i'm going down the usb road.
I read the guides and downloaded USB loader gx and WBFS manager.
usb loader is running on homebrew, I've formatted an 8g kingston data traveller pen drive (flash drive) on WBFS. This seems to be working, when i insert the pen into the wii and run usb loader it see's the pen drive. At least I believe it does as it can tell the free space on the drive and games = 0.

Here's my problem. I cannot write an .iso game (4.3g) from my pc to the pen drive with WBFS. It goes through the motions says complete it then tells me there was an error writing. (apologies I didn't write down the error).

Is there anything I'm doing wrong here. When I formatted the pen drive with WBFS it only took a few seconds, does this sound right. I tried it a few times and it was the same each time, said formatted ok.
Also to run usb loader I just downloaded the file set and copied the files to the sd card. USB loader ran via HBC straight away I didn't run any Ciso's. I'm presuming all the latest Ciso's need were installed when I followed dogegg's tutorial.

Any ideas I'd love to hear them.
I will be getting a 500g western digital to store games or possibly partition an iomeaga one I have but I want to check it will work first by using an old pen drive.

Sorry it's a bit of a read but I've gone this far so I'm going to finish!

everything that you said is correct...

    1. all cios are installed for program when you softmodded
    2. my 120gb drive took 3 seconds to format to WBFS, so it is fast
    3. try another iso to load and see if you have a bad iso (also get the lastest wbfs manger)

edit: also i heard which is very weird on another thread that a person had a problem with adding games with the usb ports that were on the front of his computer and then when he put the drive into one of the main ports on the back it worked.... something to try

Thanks again emuhack, you've been a great help.

I'll try another .iso and see what happens. I'm running WBFS manager 3.1-RTW-x86. Not sure what the latest revision is.

I've noticed problems with the Kingston data traveller when used on my laptop. It freezes from time to time and will generally work better from the side port rather than the back port.
I have a toshiba 16G which never has a problem. Unfortunately I've permanently loanned it to my other half
