same thing here man 4.1u installed everything perfectly tonight and got the disc read error, i used one of my burnt copies my brothers wii uses on his 3.1 twilight hack. maybe we just need to get Verbatim dvdr discs if its that picky. the burnt disc's that works on my brothers wii, wich i personally softmodded works with memorex. im going to buy some Verbatim's next week i'll see if that fixes our issue.

Same thing here. I have a softmodded 4.2U and I tried burning a disk with image burn (at various speeds). I am using a Memorex DVD and I get different read errors when I try and launch the game. I have not been having much luck solving this so I also plan to buy some Verbatim's and try again. If anyone has other suggestions or solutions - please make them!

So any suggestions on what to do next? I did try a different type of DVD (not a Verbatim though) and I still had a read error. Sometimes the number are a different read error number. Any suggestions on what to do next. I probably will still try the verbatim just to give it a shot - but I am not very hopeful!

    Hey,

I just read a post on this site that suggests the new wiis are not able to read burnt DVD-R and the solution for the time being is not to waste DVD's trying. I have posted a question to confirm this. This could be my problem at least as my wii is new this Christmas and is running on a 4.2 system menu. The good thing is that it sure runs games wonderfully from the USB harddrive. The only problem I am having is running games that require a usb mic sinc my HDD is plugged into the USB port. That is why I was trying to run burnt games!

    Thanks nightstah,

Kind of confirms what I thought I may have learned tonight.............

    1048, 1053 & 1101:
DVD Read Error Bad burn/media or incorrect cios/neogamma version. If you are laready using Verbatim DVD-r burned at 4x, try switching to neogammar6 and cios36rev10 (will not work for new wiis/this has worked only for LU39 models). Also this error will persist on newer wiis, meaning that they have the new D3-2 chip which cannot read backups at all. Only option for them is USB loading.
    ................

Guess I can't read burnt DVD's on my machine

I'm pretty sure Hermes IOS 222 let's you use your normal USB port for HD, and enables the other one for Microphone. It's also directly supported (though you have to specify IOS 222 as default and save globally) by USB Loader GX. You may, or may not have to install IOS 56 in addition.
