Question about reversing a mod or writing over current mod.

    Hey guys.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have modded my wii and the wii of a few family members. The problem is, as I'm sure you know, sometimes with the newer games there are changes that must be made to the older mods to make them work. Most of us are on 4.1u firmware using bannerbomb hack and neogama 7 to load games.

My question is: If I wanted to follow your new up to date guide so that I'm on the newest mods (hopefully giving me less headache as I'm apparently the only one that took the time to learn how to dl and burn games), can I just re-mod overtop of my old mod? Is there a way to back the old mod out without resetting my system and losing all my .wad games etc?

Sorry if I'm not being clear, I really just want a way to get an already modded wii up to date with the newest mods and preferably not have to do a full reset of my system and lose all my wiiware and wad games. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if you are on 4.1 there really is no updates for modding.... but if you come across a new IOS that you need for a game you can load it through WAD manager and it will just re-write the IOS with the new version..

jw - what were you looking to update??? just curious

Well I have a friend that is on 4.2 and followed your hack guide and hasn't had any problems with games. I have like 5 different people on 3 different FW revisions so my plan was to update everyone to the newest firmware 4.2x? And follow your guide to make my life easier. That way I know if it worked on mine it will work on my cousin's, dad's etc...

    You know what I mean?

i would not update to 4.2... that is my opinion... i have a 4.1U sys with all the goodies and eveything works for me... and the other thing that i have found is that most of people's problems of games not working is that they have bad ISO's....

    update everyone to 4.1

It certainly won't make it any easier, in fact you could take a 45 minute hack and turn it into hours and hours if you update to 4.2 Remember it isn't the system menu that plays the games, it is the ios files. The only purpose the 4.2 update served was to stub the ios249 which is used for softmodding. The best coarse of action if you want to be the latest and yet the safest is to use the 3.1-4.1 softmod guide and at the optional step, update to 4.1 using the safe updater. The 4.2 system menu isn't gonna give you anything more for playability, just a hard time softmodding.

Everyone is on 4.1 or higher. 4.1u in my dads case. The mod I used on mine is different than I used on a few others. I guess my real goal is to get everything to the best (least problems) confirguration and preferably have them all on the same mod so that I don't have to drive back and forth figuring out why it works on mine but not theirs. How about this, is there a way to remove the mods I have currently done so that I can mod them all the same?

I don't really ever have problems with bad iso's I was lucky enough to grow up with a guy that is a genius as far as I'm concerned when it comes to computers and he got me access on a "scene" ftp. He says everything there that isnt tagged with nuked should be good and working, I've never had problems. I'm not trying to brag or anything, just explain my situation the best I can. Thanks for all your help so far!

to remod and remod is a chance that you will brick one of them.... i would leave them right now and untill you have a problem then worry about it.... what you could do though is make sure that the IOS files that are on the wii's are the same ver.... and if they are not update them to the current ver... but again "dont fix something that is not broken"

and can you PM about the "scene" ftp.... i would like to know more about it....

    thanks

You can use that guide if you haven't allready to update your cios and install the ios files that come with it. Honestly I have used it to mod 5 wii consoles and almost every game I had worked straight away. The only ones that did not were the ones that needed additional workarounds or the hermes cios installed and 4.2 wouldn't have helped those situations anyway.

Honestly CIOS and IOS files/versions always kind of confused me. How would I go about checking all my current versions and relate it to what versions are the best to have? I'll take a look through the guide. Are you saying that I can follow JUST the parts in the guide referring to cios and iso installs and that should get me up to date? Will installing those affect my current mod in any way? Thanks again guys.

@emuhack: From what I understand the ftp I use only grants access to my username from my home and work ip address I provided them. I could talk to my friend to see how hard it is to get someone access to the site if you like? Thanks!
