You will need it since your system menu needs to be updated to a more stable version. What is the problem with internet?

Thanks. I'm not sure exactly as I don't read japanese. I followed the online tutorial to setup wireless internet at connect.wii.com which is in English but when I press the Internet button in system settings I get a pop up japanese window instead of the option for connection settings. If click on the link in that window I get directed to a page requesting pass key of some sort with a numerical keypad. At this point I've lost the plot. Does anyone know whether this is normal for Jap units? There's nothing wrong with my wireless network as I'm using it for numerous network devices.

No it sounds like parental controls have been enabled to keep system settings from being changed.

Thanks, I'll check it out. My wife bought me the unit a couple of years ago from new and neither of us have touched the settings. I'll report back after checking the Parental control setting. Thanks again for your suggestion.

There is a method to disable or retrieve the code but I'm not sure, maybe the nintendo website has the info, but there is also the language barrier to consider.

I'm going to find someone who reads Japanese. By the way if I successfully apply the softmod will the wii still be in Japanese?

Yes, there is a way to change that, but i don't know how. I would save that question for a new thread when you get the softmod done.

I found someone to translate the popup window and Oddgriffin is correct. It is asking for the parental control password. This is very odd as we bought it new and neither my wife nor I have touched any system settings.

Anyway, I see there is a link to a program on this site at wii.marcansoft.com/parental.psp to get a reset code. But could someone guide me as to how to obtain a confirmation number and then what to do with the reset code. Do I just plug in the reset code when it asks for the parental lock passcode?

    Muchos gracias.
