Upgraded softmods, but now games won't run

Dear all,

My brother's wii was softmoded a while back, but some recent games weren't running. I am now trying to update it, but am not managing to do it successfully.

Original DVDs run without any issue, but recorded discs, that run flawlessly on my Wii, aren't running on his.
I'm getting a timeout error when I try to run a game, with either NeogammaR8 or NeogammaR7. And when exiting Neogamma after this, the system just freezes.

These are the current symptoms... any idea what might be going on? Btw, I'm with system menu 4.1.

Let me go over the full steps I took, as it might help understanding what's going on:

I've first followed this tutorial over at wiibrew, in order to setup the homebrew channel and run bootmii:

The next step I took was to restore the trucha bug using this guide:

and have then installed cios 249 using this guide:

Sorry, I didn't knew about WiiHacks before... Do you think I've done wrong in following those guides?

Neogamma's giving you a timeout because you're on cIOS38rev16. Rollback to 14 and your issue should go away.

For future reference, this site is "teh awesomez". The guides here won't steer you wrong. :)

Don't know, why don't you look at our guides and see if there are things wrong from that data. We are not gonna go learn other guides.

Hi Ithian, thank you for the reply. You've putted me back on the right track! :)

Should it be enough to run the cIOS38 r14 installer? I've tried to do that, but am getting this error message when doing it:

Installing custom IOS, please wait...
Install ERROR! (ret = -1035)

Check out the error link in my sig for 1035. Also might be worthwhile to go through the 3.1-4.1 softmod guide to see what else those guides missed.

Hmm, just found some promissing info on error 1035:

Looking at the error code list, I was directed to this guide, which I started following:

However, on step 2, when downgrading IOS15, I'm finding this error:

Any ideia what might be happening?

After a great deal of searching it appears this may be related with the fact that I have used Trucha bug restorer 1.11 and the cIOS38rev16 installer.

Maybe this is what is keeping me from using TBR 1.0 and the cIOS38rev14 installer successufully?

I remember that the installation of cIOS38rev16 went apparently well when i ran it (no error was returned). But I couldn't run any games at the time. Neogamma was giving me the timeout, and GeckOs a "no dvd found" error.
