Thumbs up Firmware update PLEASE HELP!

Hi, i am doing the 3.1-4.1 guide.
    The guide tells me this:
If you are on 3.1 you will have to update to 4.0 first, make sure you install the patched IOS60 first though still. Before you update to 4.1 make sure you have at least 250 blocks free or you will brick, install IOS60-patched first with Wad Manager using IOS249, then run Firmware Updater 4.1.

    I have installed the IOS60.
But now, i have downloaded the files for 4.0 (found in the guide)
and put them om my SD card.
The readme file in the map of 4.0 tells me this:
    - Run the application with any method to load homebrew and the update will be done
    automatically.

But when i go to HBC channel nothing happens?
    What should i do?

    THANKS!!!

you have to put the updater into SD:/apps/"whatever folder"/boot.dol, that means the boot.dol should be n a folder in the apps foolder in the SD. then, load HBC and select the updater, and press load and it wiull happen. but the guide says 4.1 not 4

I need help with this. I was following the softmod guide and stuck at step 4 where it says to load 4.0 from 3.1. I'm not sure how to do all that. Please shed some light here.
how do you load patched IOS60? I didn't see it in the IOS list. I would greatly appreciate a very detailed steps as I'm new in this site.

    Thanks.

IOS60-Patched is not in the ROOT of the SD card but in one of the folders. Navigate your way through the folders and you will find it. I think it may be in the [WAD] folder.

If you are on firmware 3.1, then you will need to download the 4.0 firmware update (from the guide) and place it on your SD Card. You can then load it from the HBC but only after you have installed the IOS60-Patched.

What do you mean by "select the updater"? I put the firmware 4.0 boot.dol in a folder called "firmware_4.0" in /apps on the SD card but I don't see it anywhere in HBC. How do I install the 4.0 firmware??

My system is 3.1u, that's why I'm not going straight to 4.1.

    Thanks.

Is it called firmware 4.0 boot.dol or simply boot.dol?

The file is called boot.dol in some folder that I created (in /apps), like firmware_4.0

edit: crap... it was not boot.dol... it was the name you gave me. Thanks!! Will try now.

edit2: I ran the firmware 4.0 and I got a black screen with a bunch of codes. It says Exception (DSI) occurred! at the top, and CODE DUMP in the bottom part of the screen. Everything seems to be frozen. This can't be good?

edit3: I fixed this by connecting to the internet. I didn't realize that I had to be connected...
