    Mplayer

Ok first off, thanks to all the info contributers here. Just got my system for xmas and life is good. Its softmodded 4.2U with priiloader , scary at first. Ive installed neogamma ,usbloader gx ,Mplayer AX and a few game wads, for testing puposes. Everything ive read led me to believe that I have the new chipset. Since the system is only 2 weeks old, i was sure of it. I tried a couple dvd movies on Mplayer just for grins, no dice. A few were purchased copies and some where backups on dvd-r and +r . So I installed uLaoder 36A . connected my ext dvd and that wouldnt load movies either. So I tried a backup game , no go. I loaded the game in the system drive and booted with neogamma and low and behold it works great......The confusing part, Why, did I just happen to get the good chipset, are they still making them and why does it not play my dvd movies. Should I reinstall Mplayer or something better or could something else be misconfigured. Im still a newb so go easy . Has this happened to anyone else. Thanks again.................meangene

The wii was designed to play wii games, not dvd, no backups. Just wii games, and the new d2-3 chip is just a reinforcement of what it was designed to be.

All you should need is to have dvdx installed to play dvd movies from disk, but it really doesn't work that well. Better for divx and stuff like that.

as oddgriffin say "The wii was designed to play wii games, not dvd, no backups. Just wii games, and the new d2-3 chip is just a reinforcement of what it was designed to be."

but you have luck your Wii is not softmoded its chiped and so you are able to play backup disc.
why wouldn't you try another Mplayer version? or use a USB HDD and you can launch movies from there too. and of course games ...

So you aren't really asking anything then, sorta talking out loud or something? What I mean by not working well is almost to the point of not working at all. If you have divx installed try a format like divx from disk and you'll know it is setup fine but dvd playback isn't all it is cracked up to be.

Yes really wierd and cool you didn't get the chip, Obviously not if you can read dvdr disks.

ok since I don't see anywhere in your post you mentioning that you installed dvdx so I don't see the point. Please don't be cryptic. If you have an actual question, come out and ask it, otherwise don't be to upset by the responses you get.

I suppose the point is that because you are able to play backup game discs off your softmodded Wii could maybe a DVD movie play as well. You are shifting your ideas of what the Wii might be able to do because you had initially resigned yourself to the fact of life with the D3-2.

It seems that your initial softmod wasn't quite successful and the steps you took in just trying things out and installing uLoader might have helped that out a bit. By the way, the uLoader 3.5 and 3.6 support a USB-connected DVD drive.

Similar stories? No-not a lot of people who play backup games play a lot of movies in order to try and preserve the life and calibration of the Wii Drive. It's not the most long-lived of drives due to rather famous underestimations of gameplay by Nintendo.

If you are just as you say going for grins-try to reinstall MPlayer 0.75 and take it for spin. Good luck and have fun playing with your Wii.
