NEW HERE....and a couple quick questions.

I have read a lot of posts....but still can't find what I think I'm looking for.

I have an older Wii, with 3.4U firmware. It may have been older...but I just played Wii Sports Resort the other night and it updated my system. Not sure what it did, or what firmware I had before. But it now states 3.4U.

My question is...I want to be able to use an external HDD and backup my games so I don't have a bunch of disks laying around.

I have never hooked my Wii up to the Internet yet...but I do have a wireless connection that I can hook up...but its still in the box.

Should I upgrade to the newest 4.2 by doing the wireless connection and letting my Wii update...or should I keep it at 3.4U to do this softmod?

I want to do what is best...

Any suggestions or help would be great.

    Thanks

Thanks for all the info. I had found that link earlier. I just really wanted to know if upgrading to 4.2 was a good thing to do, or is there something good about having the 3.4U.

3.4U is good as you can still use the Twilight Hack : ) But Bannerbomb is easier now anyway. Still, I'm on 4.1E, just avoid 4.2. It's terrible.

avoid updating to 4.2E by nintendo server or official update: right, i agree

but you can update to 4.2 by using waninkokos patched update without any complications.

    Talking Hallo

    Hello everybody,

I'm glad I found this community so I was able softmod my Wii.

The whole family is enjoying our hacked Wii.

I'd be interested to know why people think 4.2E is a nogo. I updated via nintendo and all works fine as there is a full softmod on here for 4.2.
Is this another out of date rumour that went round before the 4.2 softmod was documented?
Has someone actually tried 4.2E and then followed the softmod and found ot to fail?

It's just easier to use 4.1. If you have a softmodded Wii, it is advised you do not update as 4.2 deletes the Homebrew you already have and can cause troubles. 4.2 is identical to 4.1, so I don't see the reason to just stay on 4.1
