question about upgrading from 3.3 -4.1

    Hello!

I just upgraded from 3.3u to 4.1u using the
'New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii ' tutorial here on the site and everything went fine except for when I finished, it still shows version 3.3u in the settings. Is that normal - or should it read 4.1?

If it's supposed to be 4.1, any ideas on what I could have done wrong? I'm gone over the tutorial with a fine comb and can't find anything else.

    Thanks in advance

    Thumbs up

Hey just wanted to let everyone know I found out why after my upgrade the system menu was still showing 3.3u...

If you have to run firmware 4.1 upgrader, make sure when you are done that it shows 4.1 in the settings... I obviously had an error trying to install it the first time and missed it.. but good thing because the wii would have been in for a whole world of hurt because the upgrader didn't run properly..

I guess it's best to take your time and double check everything when softmodding...

This has been a message from Noob Smiley.. lol

So many people rush and don't take their time and end up bricked. It's wise to tread carefully and never make assumptions.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

    G'day guys.

My Wii console is ver 3.1E and SerialNo: LAH10599.... I followed the instruction by Dogeggs for my Wii. I am in step 4 in this instruction and completed install the patched ISO60.
Now, I need to update firmware 4.1. But I need to do update to 4.0 first as the instruction said ! I already download update 4.0 in my pc but have not sure how to do this !!!

I look into my SD card, under folder "apps", there is a folder name: "firmware updater 4.1" and there are files:
    boot.dol
    icon
    meta
    README

I also copied the folder "firmware update 4.0" into the SD card under folder "apps" and there are files:
    firmware-Updater_4.0.dol
    README.es
    README

Now, I renamed the folder "firmware upater 4.1" to "firmware update 4.11". reason doing this is to avoid the Homebrew chanel load the "firmware updater 4.1" as the instruction by Dogeggs stated I must install update 4.0 before update 4.1

Yes, I relaunch the homebrew chanel and doing update firmware as show from the homebrew chanel with firmware update 4.1. But no lucks. It seemed to be the Homebrew chanel unable to find firmware updater 4.1 folder !

    My question is:
Should I rename the folder "firmware updater 4.0" to "firmware updater 4.1" AND rename all file names as shown in "firmware updater 4.1" respectively ?

I NEED HELP ON DOING UPDATE FIRMWARE 4.0 BEFORE ATTEMP TO DO FIRMWARE UPDATE 4.1 for my Wii console.

    Thanks guys

    boot.dol
    icon
    meta
    README
this looks good, don't change anything

I also copied the folder "firmware update 4.0" into the SD card under folder "apps" and there are files:
    firmware-Updater_4.0.dol
    README.es
    README
Here, only change the name of the .dol file and rename it boot.dol (did you read the readme), homebrew channel will not see a folder unless there is a boot.dol inside of the folder

Now, I renamed the folder "firmware upater 4.1" to "firmware update 4.11". reason doing this is to avoid the Homebrew chanel load the "firmware updater 4.1" as the instruction by Dogeggs stated I must install update 4.0 before update 4.1
do not change the names of the folders, Homebrew will not load anything unless you select it.

    My question is:
Should I rename the folder "firmware updater 4.0" to "firmware updater 4.1" AND rename all file names as shown in "firmware updater 4.1" respectively ?
do not do this, look at the above answers

this is what your SD should look like with respects to the update folders
    apps/firmware update 4.0/boot.dol
    apps/firmware updater 4.1/boot.dol

next time you should make a new post of your own.

Thanks you so much for your comment on my wii's problems. At least you actually understood exactly what going on with my wii's problems.

Just wish to confirm with you again to avoid I am missing understand your advised.

    1) I will leave the 2 folders ("firmware updater 4.0" and "firmware updater4.1") in my SD cards AND rename the file "firmware update 4.0.dol" to "boot.dol" in the folder "firmware updater 4.0"
2)Do an firmware update from the Homebrew Channel

    Heaps thanks
