Wii with Wasp modchip vs. 4.2 update

    Hi everyone

I've searched and searched, but found no sure answers, so I turn to this great forum for help!

I live in Europe, so I have a PAL Wii, with a Wasp modchip installed for over a year.

So far, no problems with games and backups (only used PAL iso's) and updates - at this moment, I have it on 3.4(E).

What about this 4.2 update? Is it ok if I update from a PAL game to 4.2 without risking problems on the wii and/or the wasp chip?

I have no softmod of any kind installed, «only» the chip.

Thank you very much for any kind of input you can give me.

    Best regards,
    Andy

I've done some more searching, and it seems that:

    - this chip will also get region-locked, but apparently no other problem like bricking or something else

    - I was also «adviced» to «try» to update it using the latest wasabi firmware, that, among others, fixes BCA protection

Can anyone please give some feedback and opinion on these matters?

    Thank you very much.

yes you should look for a firmware update, obviously.
a disk update will not take you to 4.2 as of yet, only the official online nintendo update will do that.

Thank you very much for your answer.

But do you think the wasabi update will work on the wasp chip?...

And I now understand, disks such as NSMB come with 4.1 update, not yet 4.2, right?

    Again, thank you.

    Best regards.

I don't know a whole lot about modchips, but if you have one it only stands to reason that if there is an updated firmware for the model of your chip it should work. Some may work for a number of chips but only the manufacturer's would be able to tell you that.

The latest disk update is 4.1, but that could change any day if nintendo makes another game and decides to use the 4.2 disk update in it.
