Smile How to reinstall Homebrew on a patched wii

I bought a patched Korean wii that is running 4.0U. The machine has Homebrew 1.01 and Neogama R6 installed on it. The system came this way. I didn't install Homebrew on it and I don't have the original SD card that was used to do the upgrade. I also didn't backup my NAND.

Here are my questions: I want to backup my NAND and upgrade my Homebrew and Neogama to the latest version.

Can someone tell me how to do it so that I won't brick my wii?

I found instructions online, but it's a bit confusing since there are several warning about Korean wii's and I am also not sure if I should follow the instruction for a Korean system or a regular system since mine has been patched to 4.0U

What reasons do you want to update??

There are many issues with the Korean Wii's, so needing to know why you wish to update will allow people to advise you properly.

I was hoping to install backup games onto an external hard drive. I guess I am also upgrading because it's the newest release.

No need to update the firmware from 4.0 for this AFAIK. You should still be able to install USB Loader GX through Homebrew Channel as a WAD without any real problems.

Dogeggs guide on hacking the 3.1-4.1 firmware consoles is where you can get the information from. Since you already have the Homebrew Channel installed, you can skip that bit.

    Guide is Here

    Read this first...

Never update a region changed Korean wii.
If you have a region changed Korean wii, updating will result in a brick.
You will receive error 003, which is currently unfix-able. Korean wii's have a LKM######### serial number. If you have one of these, do not update your wii. Also region changed Korean wii's should install cIOS70-v6174-v3.5.wad, which may prevent "error 003" should you update by mistake. Don't update.

    Hope this helps

Us How to I backup my NAND If I already have Homebrew installed?

Just some followup questions. I bought the system with homebrew already installed. Can someone tell me how can I backup my NAND?

Also, are you all suggesting that I should just stay with system 4.0U and not bother updating the system to 4.1U? I know I have to stay away from 4.2 since I am on a Korean Wii.

I was also hoping to update my Homebrew to 1.06 and Geogamma to R7. Should I just leave those alone too?
