use this link to find out which drive chipset your wii has.

    Wii Drive Chip Database

If it is one of the newest ones and I am inclined to believe it is. You may not be able to play backups ie. DVD-r's on it drivekey or no drivekey. USB hard drive will what you will have to use.

Check the link and tell us the results. all you need to do is type in your consoles serial number in the space near the top.

Yes, it is one of the new models that does not work with drivekey. What are all of my options?

so what your are saying is that its a D3-2 board that can't play dvd-rs. You have two options. You can get WODE or you can softmod it and load your backups through usb loader gx.

Which one do you recommend? Either way, do I still need my drivekey or can I return it?

personally I would softmod and use a USB hard drive. WODE look nice I don't know their price or if they are shipping yet. 250gb HD can hold around 80-100 games and if you can get one on sale they are around 80-100 bucks. Your drivekey will be useless to you as you can not use it for disc loading. If you can return I would suggest doing so.

Shit! I just ordered the WODE. Guess that is the route I will be taking. Will the drivekey still be useless to me? Any other advice for WODE?

I think the WODE will allow usb hd capability. Softmodding will not be necessary with the WODE I believe it just plugs into the Wii some how. Yes your drivekey I believe will not be any use to you.
