softmod can do everything hardmod can and even more. With hardmod u dont hav to worry about anything and launch the games w/ disc channel as regulars. Softmod just uses backup launcher. If that does not matter to u, i would get softmod if i were u. U can update ur IOS without the whole menu update itself. (like 4.2 kills ur homebrew and hardmod out of region support) so with softmod u can just stay on 4.1 and play all ur games. Both would also work i guess but ur choice.

The best choice that you can go for is both actually. You should get the hardmodded wii and then softmod it so that you can install ios. If the system menu is 3.4 or lower, downgrade it to 3.2. If you run softmodding only you have a chance of bricking your wii, but if you use hardmod and use softmod to install ios you have a pretty good chance of never bricking your wii.

Thanks, it looks like i'll take the softmod option with usb hdd as a 500gb hdd is much quicker to fill than burning 100 games at a time, but another couple of q's before I pay for it. I heard/read somewhere that using downloaded games can remove the softmod is this true coz I don't wanna be screwed. I also read that any update will screw it to are these true?

well update updates ur files= could overwrite the moded ones so u should not update or use safe updater not from nintendo. IF u use a OUT OF REGION UPDATE(like Japanese on USA wii) it might also brick ur wii.
In softmod u can update the important files without the update itself so u dont have to worry and u can play all games even on old version wii unlike hardmod.
downloaded games cant remove the softmod unless u do something like updateing.
Also since ur using USB loading it skips the disc update so u should not worry.
