ios can be considered the operating system of the wii or the firmware. Wii apps run on ios, there are many versions. Only one ios is running on the Wii at any one time, iOS does not interact with other ios. Every time an app is loaded, the current running iOS loads that app. When this happens ios is reloaded, like a restart, to whatever ios the loaded app runs on. If there is any issue with the required ios, the app will crash or I'm some cases report an error. Apps running on ios include your system menu, priiloader, channels, WiiWare, vc, homebrew, etc. Most important is your system iOS, which priiloader and system menu run on. When you turn on your Wii boot0 loads boot1 (mini ios, can not be updated), boot1 then loads boot2 (another mini ios which can be updated), boot2 then loads the system ios and launches the system menu(or priiloader which replaces the system menu boot file). If there is anything wrong with any of those files, the Wii will not boot. So if you where on system menu 4.3, which runs on system ios80, your Wii would fails to boot the system menu if you deleted ios80(priiloader would also fail since it runs on ios80). So don't mess up your boot2, system ios, or system menu.

cios is custom ios, these are nintendo ios with unauthorized user modifications which enable additional features to the Wii not found in official ios. These include the following modifications
Trucha bug- needed to install/run faksigned content, like other cios, custom channels, pirated WiiWare/BC
es-identify- used by applications that make modifications to system files on the Wii, such as changing the region settings, etc
Nand access- allows apps to modify nand
Version patch- allows for the installation of titles with a lower version than that which is installed on the Wii
Dip patch- enables the cios to read burned dvds, but only on older drives which have dvd debugging feature.
    Usb2- enables usb2 speeds
Usbloading so you can load Wii games from USB
    And many other modifications.
ios can be installed into approx 254 ios slots, ios80 is a system ios installed into ios slot 80. You could copy it into any other slot if you wished. cios are installed into ios slot 200-254, for the most part. cios just like ios does not affect other cios or ios, they run only one at a time and apps run on them, just like ios.
If you delete ios or cios it is gone. If you have iosXXX-v1492 and you install iosXXX-1984, the version you install will replace the currently installed version. If you then uninstall iosXXX, it is gone, it will not revert to the prior version.

ios not iOS and not iso.
iso is an image of a disc, like a Wii game. wbfs files are similar, but unlike iso which is a 1:1 copy, wbfs are smaller as unused data space has been removed to compress the file size.

    Please add:

Do not use Priiloader to autoboot any app if your Wii is a Family Edition one (the one without GC CONTROLLERS) without BootMii as BOOT2 (not as IOS).

    Reason:
If you sync your Wiimotes to another Wii then resyncing is impossible without entering the system menu. Setting autoboot will lead you to access only Priiloader and the app you boot to.

After you load priiloader, wait a few seconds, then hold reset and it will load the system menu bypassing autoboot settings.

Thank you SO SO SO SO very much mauifrog. You are the man. I've been looking for an answer for a week and everyone told to use a gamecube controller to navigate through priiloader. I wish I could thank you more than once for this very useful post.

It can be uninstalled. It is not a system IOS, just a cIOS.

So basically, IOS200 and foward can be deleted, so basically the Wii stays with IOS199 right?
