I've been reading numerous posts, articles, and tutorials to better educate myself regarding homebrew and softmodding. Thank you for the excellent guide. However, I need a bit of some clarification. One portions says to never update from online; could having WiiConnect24 on pose as possible problem? I mean, if there was another update, surely there would be a prompt for it, correct? I'm under the assumption that it's never automatically downloaded.

Hardmoded wii's also should not do the things mentioned here.

I have priiloader installed, which boots to USB Loader GX. I think bootmi was installed as part of HBC(?) Would the Indiana Pwns give me any additional security/safety?

Indiana Pwns is a hacked savefile for the Lego Indiana Game. Yes installing it would give you one more option if you needed it. It would allow you to boot into recovery menu and use the game to load apps. It is a very small amount of protection to fall on, but it is something.

Hmm.. I was just about to install the latest version of cIOSCORP so I can avoid using a Backup Loader. I get that it changes a lot of the IOS, but doesn't the softmod method to get to that point do just as many changes and patches?

No, usually when you softmod we patch ios36, and maybe ios60/70 with trucha. This can be skipped by using bootmii to install cios. So really, we only install some custom channels and ios files, but don't mess much with the rest.
But, there is nothing wrong with installing cIOSCORP, if you understand what it does, and accept the risks involved.

There is a big difference between a patched ios60, and cios60.

Users who install it knowingly, typically have good luck. The trouble comes when someone does not know they have it and update and try to remove softmods and end up in a pickle.

But the fact is cIOSCORP replaces just about every ios on you system. If it fails, or corrupts you could end up with a brick.

There is also risks in standard softmoding, it could brick you. cIOSCORP is one more risk added onto that.

Also consider that loading from disks sucks compared to usb loading, so whats the point, disks are out dated.

thanks maui. question though, if we followed the 3.1-4.1 softmod method on the faqs, what good is indiana pwns if we already have the homebrew channel already installed?
also, if we do not have the game itself, can we use a burned copy of indiana lego to get the protection?
